Meizu MX5 Debuts With 5.5-inch FHD Display, Complete Metal Body Packs Helio X10 SoC

Finally the Meizu MX5 is official now, as it comes with a full metal packing this time which is in line with the times of premium handsets made of pro material, and apart that features an refreshed processor, compared to MX4 Pro. With the Helio X10 Turbo chipset clocked at eight core (Octa-Core) Cortex-A53 cores at 2.2GHz, MX5 is coupled with PowqerVR G6200 GPU and paired with 3GB of RAM. Now that Meizu proving itself to be the best rival amongst the China’s up-and-coming Xiaomi brand and Huawei to say some into the competition, has today announced MX5 Pro as a mid-range offering.

Meizu MX5 will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of internal storage varaints and that too covers its body with a 7.6mm thin structure, weighs at 149 grams which is somewhat awesome with a metal-clad 5.5-inch gadget, that too with Super AMOLED display with 100% increase in NTSC color gamut, 10000:1 contrast ratio and a bightness of up to 500 nits.

The MX5 runs on FlymeOS 4.5 UI based on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The metal body has built with magnesium alloy frame, which it brings with it mBlack touch-sensitive Home button, offers different functionalities based on press, similar to what the m2 Note and mTouch 2.0 fingerprint recognition tech for payments using mPay.


The Meizu has equipped the MX5 phone with the so-called mCharge tech, a fast charging of sorts, which will be able to juice it up to 25% in ten minute’s time only. Topping it off to 50% will require just twenty minutes more.


Camera-wise, the MX5 flaunts a 20.7MP primary sensor with dual-tone LED flash, 1/2.3″ Sony Exmor RS, pixel size of 1.2 microns, laser auto focus that promises 0.2 seconds focus and 4K video recording and encodes in the modern h.265 format, taking less space, while preserving the same quality. The device also has a 5MP front-facing camera for best selfie shots.

It’s has a dual-SIM support with 4G LTE (TD-LTE / LTE-FDD) / 3G HSPA+ , WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS connectivity options. It packs a 3150mAh battery unit and will be available in Gray, Silver and Gold color models.

The Meizu MX5 (16GB) is priced at 1800 yuan (about $290), and 1999 yuan (about $322) will get you the 32GB one. The high-hitting 64GB model cost you a $387 equivalent. Pre-order can be made for the MX5 variant in China. Goes on sale from July 5th. No details about the global roll out yet.
