You now already have the latest version 2.12.38 of WhatsApp for Android which brings with it the Voice calling functionality, and the 5.0 Lollipop’s Material Design aesthetics, and what it got today is that, you will soon be seeing another great inclusion from cloud storage backup. Now that WhatsApp Inc is updated with another option, that lets users backup WhatsApp chats to their Google Drive respectively. Here’s how to enable ‘Chat Backup’ on WhatsApp APK v2.12.45 for Android to your Google Drive account with all the instructions. The updated Android WhatsApp verson has been made available from here, which isn’t become official yet the WhatsApp website download page (still lists 2.12.44) or Google Play Store either.
Once you downloaded and installed the WhatsApp APK version 2.12.45 update, head over to Settings > Chat Settings > Chat Backups. From there you’ll see a new screen that shows your last backup time and a list of greyed out Google Drive settings. Change the frequency from off to daily or weekly or monthly. Done! You will be able to pick up a Google account for the backups as well as choose whether you want it to use your WiFi only or WiFi and cellular data networks for ‘Backup Chats’.
Wait! You will however need to wait for 4:00 AM when WhatsApp usually does its daily backup for the magic to initiate. Now waiting for such, then you can also initiate by tapping the top Back up now option, which first of all make a a local backup then eventually starts sending the data to Google Drive.
Note: Once the back up chats started, there won’t be any stopping and the size is quite large if you have received and sent a lot of media through the WhatsApp Android version.
