Silicon Valley’s Not HotDog App Hits Android APK Store [Download Link]

The newly launched ‘Not HotDog’ is now available to download on your Android device. Get excited of, as the app, based on a bit from HBO’s Silicon Valley, was been launched for iOS in May and when installed it on the compatible iPhone or iPad, it does a great job at determining what is and isn’t a hotdog. Honestly, it’s not even close to the most useless thing we’ve seen today. Trust me, or never!

The image recognition app Not HotDog for Android is a free version settled on the Google Play Store. Aimed purely at food, specifically hotdogs, the app is made available By SeeFood Technologies Inc. which has already garnered rave reviews thus far.

Along with the Android launch, the show also published a detailed description regarding Medium of exactly how the app was developed. The premise of Not HotDog is remarkably simple with a matching interface that is also quite straightforward. “While the use-case is farcical, the app is an approachable example of both deep learning, and edge computing,” said the post. Later, it goes on to describe the prototype, how the neural network was designed and how it was trained, and so on.

Obviously, there wasn’t a huge team involved in creating the app. According to the post, “The app was developed in-house by the show, by a single developer, running on a single laptop & attached GPU, using hand-curated data. In that respect, it may provide a sense of what can be achieved today, with a limited amount of time & resources, by non-technical companies, individual developers, and hobbyists alike.” It’s such easy, you can create an app that sorts food into one of two categories — which might actually be appealing to all of you who think just about everything in a sandwich.

The app opens to a camera view with a shutter button at the bottom, flash in the top-left corner, and file picker to the too-right. The latter allows users to directly import any image from their library.

Just after snapping or selecting, it will run on an algorithm to determine whether the image is the fact a hotdog. The app itself makes use of bright green and red neon banners to announce the result. A share button is also there, you can use it to broadcast the hotdog-or-not status with a link to the downloadable app.

Unfortunately, it does not include a screenshot of your creation and result, of course. Hopefully, this feature will arrive in a future update later on. The app has already received up 22 five-star review since it launched. When downloading, should be aware of as there are already a number of fake/knock-off apps, pretending to the official and best apps for Android for real HotDog identification.

Nevertheless, you can now download Not HotDog app on the Play Store (APK link) right now, which works with Android 4.3+ devices.
