Apple Reveals Redesigned Books App Coming In iOS 12 [Details]

With iOS 12 announcement during Apple’s WWDC 2018 opening keynote became the hot topic right from that time. Apple has now published an in-depth preview of everything that users can expect to find in the all-new Books app when iOS 12 ships for both iPhone and iPad in the fall.

The revamped Books app in iOS 12, including the rebranding from iBooks, was shown off on-stage last week, and today Apple has taken time out to further reiterate what is new about an app that may be the one to receive the biggest overhaul as part of iOS 12.

It seems like Apple has completely redesigned the Books app with the following tabs. As part of the refresh, users will discover the app now has five new tabs across the bottom of the app, all of which presents a different interface and different functionality.

Reading Now displays all of the books and audiobooks you are currently reading or listening to by the user with a new wishlist also included here. A new “Want to Read” section allows you to keep a wishlist of books you are interested in. “Complete the Series” or “You Might Like” present books based on those you have recently finished also there.

The Library tab does what you might expect it to and offers a view of everything users have in their list including new, large cover art with books downloaded to your device that will look great on Apple’s screens. There’s also a “Finished” timeline of books you have read in the past with the dates you finished them.

Moving over to Book Store, this allows you to browse all titles available on Apple Books, with categories such as Top Charts, Staff Picks, Editorial Collections, and Special Offers & Free. Giving users an easy way to get to where they need to be in order to buy that next Best Seller. A new “For You” section with personalized recommendations based on past purchases also included.

Audiobooks will live behind a specific AudioBooks tab, this allows you to browse all audiobook titles available on Apple Books. With a new Search button doing exactly what the name suggests.

Apple’s services chief Eddy Cue notes that the new Books app will “inspire a love of reading,” following the redesign:

Apple Books will inspire a love of reading — it puts a world of books and audiobooks right at your fingertips, whether you want to dive into your favorite story for a couple of minutes or a few hours. This is our biggest books redesign ever, and we hope this beautiful app inspires both customers and authors alike.

The updated Books app will ship alongside iOS 12 for both iPhone and iPad later this year.
