Apple Releases macOS 10.12.4 Beta 2 To Developers

Now rolling out is the macOS 10.12.4 beta 2 for developers testing. After second beta of iOS 10.3, watchOS 3.2 and tvOS 10.2 seeded yesterday, Apple has finally released macOS Sierra 10.12.4 beta 2 (16E154a) to those registered on the company’s Developer Program portal.

One of the key ingredients within the upcoming version of macOS 10.12.4 is the first to bring Night Shift to the Mac computers, that same inclusion being received so positively on iPhone and iPad.

This introduction of Night Shift mode allows users to manually, or automatically – depending on the time of day – shift the color of their Mac’s display to the warmer end of the spectrum in order to take the strain off the eyes and promote a more balanced evening and sleep experience.

Night Shift is designed to gradually shift the display of a device from blue to yellow, cutting down on exposure to blue light. Blue light is also said to disrupt the circadian rhythm and is believed to interrupt sleeping patterns. How to activate it? Through the Displays section of System Preferences, where a setting to have it come on at sunset and turn off at sunrise is available. Night Shift can also be toggled on manually through the Notification Center or via Siri.

Additionally, macOS 10.12.4 also brings in a very handy mechanism that allows developers to respond to App Store reviews via the Mac App Store. With this latest update, developers will have the ability to instantly respond to feedback on the Mac App Store, both positive/negative, with Apple finally giving them a voice to answer the queries of their customers and users who are interacting with their apps on a daily basis.

The 10.12.4 update to Mac purely focuses mainly in Night Shift, but also includes dictation support for Shanghainese, cricket scores for Siri, and improved PDFKit APIs. Rather than integrating any new features, beta 2 is very much about improving on those initial introductions and streamlining the implementation. Today’s beta adds an opt-in option for iCloud Analytics that pops up after installing the update.

macOS 10.12.4 beta 2 Release Notes and Changelog includes:

  • Night Shift now available on the Mac.
  • Dictation support for Shanghainese.
  • Ask Siri about cricket scores, schedules and player rosters. Siri knows about statistics and data from the Indian Premier League and International Cricket Council.
  • Updated PDFKit APIs for better displaying of PDFs in apps that use the framework.

This is how Apple describes its Night Shift feature:

Night Shift adjusts the color of your display after sunset. Many studies show that exposure to bright-blue light in the evening can affect your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep. After sunset, Night Shift will shift your display colors to the warmer end of the spectrum, making the display easier on your eyes. In the morning, your display returns to its regular settings.

For now, anyone with a previous beta installed on their Mac can grab the macOS 10.12.4 beta 2 update right now from under the Updates tab on the Mac App Store. New to beta seeds will have to get started by heading to (Apple Developer Program) or (Apple Beta Software Program).

Currently now, beta 2 seed of macOS 10.12.4 is only available to developers. Once the update hits the public beta channel, we’ll let you know. Stay tuned.
