Apple’s New 360-Degree Selfie Feature Exclusively Released For iPhone X [Download Now]

Apple releasing an update to its Clips movie-making app that adds iCloud support and an all-new “Selfie Scenes” mode that uses the iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera sensors to augment the user onto a 360-degree digital stage. For the full story about it, you have to read the complete information about it.

Apple’s Clips app for iOS was released already but has perhaps been less than a hit for iPhone users. A new update to the same app today been released, which may change that, though. With that said, the update brings with it new artistic effects, a new interface and Star Wars content directly and customized. While the biggest in it is the inclusion of a new 360-degree selfie feature for those especially with an iPhone X.

It’s the first big update to the app since it added Disney and Pixar stickers back in July as additional ways to decorate your photos and video clips. The app also offered Instagram and Prisma-like filters since its launch, but Selfie Scenes allow users to move around and interact with an augmented landscape.

Using the iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera, Clips uses proximity sensors to add in the person or object in front of the camera and swaps the background with a digital “scenes.” It essentially functions like a green screen in cinematography, but again, the effect happens in real time and stylizes the object or person to match the background. Great!

Otherwise, the new feature places a user into an animated 360-degree scene using the front-facing TrueDepth camera that is the only part of the iPhone X, maening anyone with an older iPhone is unfortunately out of luck and it shows how important that new camera system is for Apple.

“Clips users love how quick and easy it is to create amazing videos on iPhone or iPad,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Apps Product Marketing. “And we’re making it even more fun with Selfie Scenes. By harnessing the incredible new TrueDepth camera system on iPhone X, users can now record selfies against a variety of fun and whimsical backdrops with just a tap.”

Selfie Scenes transports users into bustling cities, serene landscapes, abstract paintings and even the Millennium Falcon and Mega-Destroyer from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

Another way for Apple to push more exclusive features optimized for the iPhone X

The update also brings with it a host of stickers, new posters, and soundtracks which users can alter their creations and alongside new Star Wars-specific stickers. There’s still Disney content including the likes of Minnie and Micky Mouse. New iCloud syncing present, means that users can have their Clips videos instantly sync across multiple iOS devices.

This app is aimed at casual movie editors on the go, not ones with studios or a full-fledged editing setup. With the release of Clips update, also brings iCloud support so you can shoot on an iPhone and continue editing on an iPad. New interface and content updates also been added as part of that, such as labeled editing buttons, more Pixar and Disney filters and new stickers, original, royalty, free songs to use as a soundtrack, and can also find a way to select a Live Title language directly from the app without needing to change your phone’s system language.

Clips 2.0 is available as a free update to download for the iPhone 5S and later, and the iPad Air, Pro, and Mini 2 and later running iOS 11.1 and above.

Without any doubt though the big new addition is that selfie 360-degree animation, and it’s good to see the TrueDepth camera being used for more than Face ID and the wonderful Animoji everyone is obsessed with right now!
