Amazon Prime Video Service Launches In India [Update: It’s Gone Global]

Finally. Amazon has officially launched its Prime Video streaming service in India today, on December 14. Amazon Prime Video is one sort of offering from the largest e-commerce and grocery website that will be available to Amazon’s Prime subscribers at premium plans, which bundles fast shipping and exclusive deals for customers in the country.

In India, Prime Video offers a range of Hollywood, Bollywood and regional language movies, as well as Amazon’s own TV series like “The Man in the High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch and Transparent,” alongside will also be offering shows from other networks such as Mad Men, The Good Wife, The Middle and Lethal Weapon etc.

Amazon Prime Video app is also been made available to download on Android and iOS devices and to users who can also access the service using their Amazon India login credentials. Launched originally in May in India that offered unlimited one-day and two-day delivery, discounted same-day, morning and scheduled deliveries. Actually means, those who have access the Amazon Prime service will be able to use Prime Video as well.

Originally in September, Amazon partnered with Dharma Productions to stream movies and upcoming new releases. Teamed also with Vishesh Films to offer the same content. Amazon has also signed a deal with SS Rajamouli, Graphic India and Arka Mediaworks for multi-episode animated series titled Baahubali: The Lost Legends based on the most popular movie ‘Baahubali 2’, which will premiere first on Amazon Prime Video India in 2017.

Amazon Prime Video service lets you stream TV show and movies – both Indian and international including the Amazon Original series as well. Existing Prime subscribers in India will not have to pay anything over the Rs 499 that they’ve already paid for the annual membership. Unlike the US, where you have to pay $99 fee for one year Prime subscription, in India that fee is a fraction of the cost.

To experience the real Amazon Prime Video power, you will need an Amazon India Prime account, which may cost you around Rs 999 ($15) per year, as well as the Amazon Prime video app for iOS and Android or Amazon. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to stream content available in your country’s local library and also download shows and movies for offline viewing. On desktops, this service is also available through and through select smart TVs from LG and Samsung.

Currently, Prime Video’s catalogue is a healthy mix up of Bollywood and Hollywood content. For now, the service is offering to watch movies like Kabali, Sultan, Baar Baar Dekho, Dhoom series, Raaz and much more. International series like 2 Broke Girls, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural among others are also present.

Deals have also been signed with Green Gold Animation which makes kids shows such as Super Bheem, Chota Bheem and Mighty Raju. Amazon Prime Video service will go head to head with Netflix India, which had started its operations earlier this year. Netflix plans will go live starting Rs 500 per month and will be forayed in 128 countries worldwide.
