Reliance Jio Is Reportedly Testing 1Gbps Fibre-To-Home Broadband, List Of Jio VoLTE Supported Mobiles

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) officially made available Jio 4G services live on September 5th, 2016. The company’s chairman Mukesh Ambani has recently announced its Jio’s wireless 4G tariff plans in India, to compete with other networks. Generally priced lower than the competition, as Reliance’s main concept and agenda seems to be to provide most basic services like voice calls and SMS, for free and pamper users with additional bonuses, like a bundle of smart apps, while only requiring payments for data. Apart that, the new reports surfaced claiming that the company is also being testing its Reliance Jio GigaFiber in Mumbai and Pune for some time now, which is said to provide network speeds of up to 1Gbps download and upload speeds and the official launch is expected sometime next year. Here are the details.

The Reliance company’ chief mentioned that the company was bringing a fibre to the home (FTTH) wired network service called GigaFiber to select cities in India. That Reliance Jio FTTH network will offer speeds of up to 1 Gigabytes to subscribers. Now CTO of Hipcask, Arjun Hemrajani has tipped on social media that Reliance Jio has already started testing its GigaFiber network in some part of the country. He also claims that he received the 100Mbps connection just a few days ago with a free 3-months trail. In a tweet, Hemrajani also shared the speed test results and they show download as well as upload speeds of more than 90Mbps. With speeds up to 1Gbps, the screenshot points at download speeds of 743.28Mbps. Ambani had already suggested that it aims to expand its fibre connections to top 100 cities in India. While the wired line broadband network will extend to residential spaces and of course, enterprises as well.

Mukesh Ambani has noted that this multi-gigabyte connectivity will be at par with what is offered in other parts of the world. The Reliance Jio GigaFiber (FTTH) service is said to be still in testing stages, and users can’t go and subscribe even if they live in Mumbai or Pune. There’s still no tariff plans for its 1Gbps fibre network as yet revealed. Later this year, we can get a reasonable availability date and its offering.
