The whole story begins with rumors that points at Apple is planning something different iPhone for 2017, including the adoption of an all-new curved glass casing paired with a curved 5.8-inch AMOLED display. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, not only with guesworks for what 2017’s iPhone will entail, has interestingly giving accurate news grading such things, to pay a little more attention. That’s said, we’;re finding it a little difficult to focus on 2017 when 2016 is so young.
The analyst says that a new iPhone is on the cards, while Apple having chosen glass ahead of ceramic and plastic for reasons of manufacturing simplicity and accurace. Seeking to move away from the metal casing designs that are no longer unique, Apple will reportedly take advantage of the glass-backed design used for the iPhone 4 and 4s “to the next level” in building the upcoming 2017 iPhone. Featuring both front and back surfaces made of the material, Kuo believes that such a design will also be the inspiration in 2017, with a curved glass chassis the order of the day.
“We expect the 2017 new iPhone model to adopt a structural design similar to that of iPhone 4/ 4s, meaning it will be equipped with glass on both the front and back sides, and a metal frame surrounded the edges. The difference is that the new model will likely come with a curved screen and curved glass casing, with other important features including a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, wireless charging, and more biometric recognitions (facial or iris). Given the curved design, the new model may look smaller than an existing 5.5-inch iPhone.”
With two scenarios for Apple’s 2017 lineup, depending on availability of the AMOLED displays needed for the new iPhone, Kuo lays, it’s supplies are sufficient. Apple would launch a 4.7-inch LCD-based iPhone paired with a new 5.8-inch AMOLED iPhone are a larger option., However, AMOLED display production is a cheaper process when going with the LCD, and is unable to meet the entire large-screen demand. While Kuo believes Apple will indeed launch a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch LCD iPhones similar to today’s lineup. With 5.8-inch AMOLED model being a third option at the high end.
The KGI analyst also claims that 2017 product will see Apple introduce wireless charging to its smartphone (earlier rumored working on ranged wireless charging technology) and a brand new 5.8-inch iPhone model with an AMOLED display again set to be used. Expected that the 5.8-inch model to replace the current 5.5-inch iPhone, though the overall dimensions will remain very same thanks to reduced bezels. It’s unclear whether the removal of the Home button in the scene which could facilitate a smaller iPhone chassis as speculated for some time now.
A major change in 2017 would play a big part of a significant deperture from Apple’s point of usual pattern of keeping the similar aesthetics, general body style for two years before making any changes. The current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus represent the second year of the current body style, and this year’s iPhone 7 normally be expected to see an extreme redesign to freshen up the look. A complete iPhone family overhaul for 2017 is looking increasingly likely, Expect for few changes, like thinner body, no headphone jack, no antenna lines on the back, new iPhone 7 design is pretty similar to the iPhone 6 and 6s when it debuts later this year.
A full design refresh in 2017? What could look like when blown up to accomodate screens of 4.7-inch and 5.8-inches is to be seen. Leaks and rumors have, however, suggested changes could be fairly minor in the iPhone 7.
Previous rumors although suggested that Apple looking at launching a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone in 2017 or 2018, with the said, Apple rumored to be working with several different OLED display manufacturers to make it a real initiative.
