Install GBA4iOS 2.1 Game Boy Advance Emulator On iOS 10 [No Jailbreak Required]

Getting into the early days of jailbreaking, one of the most popular reasons to hack an iPhone was to enable playing things like GBA, NDS or PS games via emulators. Recently available emulators is GBA4iOS, which is one that allows iPhone and iPad owners to play Game Boy Advance games on their mobile devices. Moreover, GBA4iOS doesn’t actually need a jailbroken device in order to work, instead it uses Apple’s own certificates to allow users to install the emulator.

Point to be noted is that, Apple tends to close these loopholes fairly quickly by revoking the certificate that is used, but a new version of GBA4iOS is now available for download. Bad news here is that it again uses an Apple certificate that is likely to be pulled at some point, so if you want to use it, now is the time to install it.

Version 2.1 of GBA4iOS is not short of features, and has good features including:

  • Multiplayer Support
  • Controller Skins
  • URL Scheme
  • Game Boy Color and Game Boy Support
  • Dropbox Support
  • Cheat Codes and Save States

Whoa! It works on iOS 8.1 and above, including iOS 9 and even iOS 10.

This new emulator version has more to offer, but naturally you’ll need to install it and get your ROMs into it in order to put GBA4iOS 2.1 through its paces. To that extent, here’s what you will need to do to install the emulator.

First of all: Open Safari on your device, and head to:

Step 2: Tap the GBA4iOS 2.1 button and then hit Install.

Step 3: Tap Install again when you receive the popup requesting confirmation.

Step 4: Once the installation is completed, you’ll have a new GBA4iOS icon on your Home screen. Navigate to General > Profile(s) > [name of the developer] and then tap on Trust and then Trust again on the certificate. On some iOS versions, this would be General > Profile(s) & Device Management or General > Device Management.

On iOS 8, you will only need to launch the app from the Home screen and hit Trust on the confirmation popup.

The emulator is now installed and ready to use; you simply need to get some ROMs for your favorite Game Boy Advance games, which can be found easily on the internet Web.

That’s it. Installation doesn’t come much easier than that! Enjoy your GB, GBC and GBA games!
