Following on from last week’s second pre-release seed, Apple has released iOS 11.4.1 beta 3 for all compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. It seems like this version of iOS 11.4.1 beta has no new features or any known improvements or bug fixes.
With the availability of iOS 11.4.1 beta 3 as an over-the-air OTA update as well as an IPSW download, individuals who design and craft software for Apple’s mobile devices currently find themselves in a bit of a strange situation.
It’s likely Apple is simply using iOS 11.4.1 to add under-the-hood enhancements only, on the other hand, iOS 12 beta is already out into development phase in order to ensure that the platform is thoroughly tested ahead of a public release.
The release notes for iOS 11.4.1 beta 3 give nothing mindblowing, and the install screen just states “bug fixes and improvements.” To that end, it’s vitally important that testers continue to put focus and attention to iOS 11.4.1 and continue to feedback to Apple where necessary to assume that the next beta is better than this one and that the full and final iOS 11.4.1 release is fit for purpose and offers a better user-experience to all of those.
This immediate release of iOS 11.4.1 beta 3 is something perfect for that to continue to happen. Given that iOS 12 is now on the horizon, iOS 11.4.1 could very well be the last major version of iOS 11 firmware continuation that we see pushed out into the public domain before iOS 12 becomes the dominant force.
Until then, being a developer or tester, and if you care about the integrity of iOS 11.4.1 then make sure that you grab the release right now from Settings > General > Software Update, or as an IPSW file from developer.apple.com.
Update x1: Apple has also released tvOS 11.4.1 beta 3 to developers.
Update x2: macOS 10.13.6 beta 3 has now also been seeded to developers.
Update x3: Public beta 3 of iOS 11.4.1, tvOS 11.4.1 and macOS 10.13.6 available to download now as well.
