Apple has now released iOS 11.2.5 public beta 2 download to those registered on Apple Beta Software Program. It has been seeded one week after the first public beta and one week after releasing iOS 11.2.1 final to the general public, which addressed a HomeKit vulnerability.
Today’s second public beta of iOS 11.2.5 is identical to the pre-release seed that was provided to developers already. Those who registered themselves with Apple Beta Software Program are now able to grab the latest beta as an over-the-air (OTA), that too if they have a beta configuration profile installed on their device.
The release of iOS 11.2.5 beta 2 for public testers main aim is to opt the platform through its paces to ensure that it’s ready for a public release as-soon-as-possible. It also means Apple has instantly expanded the pool of testers currently putting iOS 11.2.5 throughout.
In terms of new features and functionality, iOS 11.2.5 is not much more than a bug fix release designed to try and eradicate any issues discovered as part of the initial iOS 11.2 release, which may have taken the opportunity to unveil features like Apple Pay Cash and faster 7.5W wireless charging. With the release of iOS 11.2.1 for one reason or another decided to immediately make the jump to iOS 11.2.5.
No more new features have been discovered, and nor they likely to be, Apple has stipulated that in addition to improvements and bug fixes, including niggles in the Vision framework and debugging problems for developers using Xcode to interrogate Messages extensions.
Those who want to join the beta testing program can sign up on Apple’s beta testing website, which certainly gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas. One thing to note is that iOS betas are not always stable and should not be installed on a primary device.
Once again, it’s possible it focuses primarily on security improvements and bug fixes, so it’s not entirely clear what new features this beta introduces. We may also not know the extent of what’s in the update until it sees a public release complete with detailed release notes.
If you are registered on as a beta tester and want to get this latest beta release installed, then you can grab it right now as an OTA update.
