Here’s how you can fix the intermittent freezing issue on iOS 11 Electra jailbreak on your jailbroken iPhone or iPad.
Those jailbroken device owners have been experiencing what can only be described as intermittent freezing problems in Cydia or anything else, then rest assured that there is a fix for that. Potentially!
Now that CoolStar has released Electra 1.0.3 iOS 11 jailbreak to resolve the Cydia issue, which was affecting some users. It’s great news that jailbreaking is alive when a tool was released. It jailbreaks the device completely tethered. Installed Cydia as part of that payload, and everything just worked pretty much decent and flawlessly? Not exactly.
Including CoolStar, there are some very talented people doing the best they can as far as jailbreaking is concerned, who not only pieced together the Electra jailbreak but who is also troubleshooting and providing answers to problems whenever possible:
For those experiencing intermittent freezing issues: Try uninstalling “Substitute” from Cydia (will also uninstall all tweaks) and see how it goes for a day or 2. The jailbreak should behave more like beta 10 (just with TCP instead of UDP), as XPC won’t be involved as much.
For those of you having your iOS 11 / iOS 11.1.2 iPhone or iPad jailbroken using the latest version of Electra jailbreak, experiencing intermittent hanging and freezing problems, the resolution in the short-term appears to be to head into Cydia and entirely remove the Substitute package, which is essentially an alternative to Cydia Substrate put together by Comex.
In fact, Substitute acts the same as Substrate, removing it means that all associated tweaks which otherwise requires it as a dependency will actually be uninstalled also. There’s an official advice to that which does appear to be to take Substitute out of the equation, for now. By no means, a flawless resolution to the error as it essentially means powerful SpringBoard-based tweaks and experience won’t be able to be installed or used.
It’s good to note removing Substitute for a day or two as per CoolStar’s advise and then reinstalling the package to see if that has any effect on the performance of the Jailbroken hardware. With that said: @coostarorg [Twitter])
Just after pointing and to tackle the issue, CoolStar has made available a new version of Electra 1.0.3 jailbreak today. Alongside, CoolStar also released a diagnostic tool for Electra so people facing the freezing issue could send diagnostic info that seems to have helped identify the error.
Here’s the complete changelog of Electra 1.0.3 iOS 11 jailbreak:
- Revert change to XPC in xpcproxy in beta 11
- Fix intermittent freezing issues that would affect certain devices on beta 10 -> 1.0.2
He also tipped that the problem is not with Electra iOS 11 jailbreak “but a problem with said tweaks that are loading Launch Daemons.”
Also, Safe Mode only protects against backboardd/SpringBoard crashes If a tweak crashes a system daemon, it’ll get stuck in a crash loop, which definitely would cause freezing
