Fortnite Is Headed To Apple TV As tvOS Reference Suggests In Game’s Code Leak

Is Fortnite heading towards Apple TV? According to a new statement received from Epic saying it’s not planning to bring Fortnite to Apple TV. But a tvOS reference was found buried in the game’s code, suggesting that Fortnite is parachuting onto Apple TV, but it has nothing to do with a port of the game, now.

Fortnite is one of the best competitors in battle royale game versus PUBG Mobile breathing down its neck. Missteps in the world of PUBG have left Fortnite as the darling of the game industry right now, and it settled well on mobile as well, it’s potential arrival on the Apple TV could give Apple’s set-top box a real boost at a time where it continues to lose ground thanks to its relatively high price and the fact its App Store hasn’t taken the world by storm as some had expected.

It was @StormLeaks Twitter account, referred that, Fortnite code referencing tvOS has been discovered, replicating the arrival of the game on the Apple TV is at least something that has been mooted by developer Epic Games.

References to tvOS in the Fortnite files are the result of general Unreal Engine support for the Apple TV platform, although the unreal engine is a popular game-development platform. While the mention of tvOS in the inner workings of Fortnite does not exactly confirm that fact that we all will see the game land on the platform any time soon. But it does at least show that the discussion has been done at some point within Epic Games, which is something most had not anticipated.

Fortnite is currently available for every other platform we can think of, including Android as part of a beta access program that started with the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 recently, as exclusivity.

With the Apple TV Fortnite game installation, having its own App Store, getting Fortnite into the platform shouldn’t be a big job. Although gamers would very likely need to get their hands on a third-party controller similar to the ones Apple sells via its own retail outlets. We cannot imagine Fortnite being any fun playing with an Apple TV controller.

The original story follows.

Apple TV is one of the few platforms left that insanely popular battle royale game Fortnite hasn’t yet conquered. But it might be landing on there if the reference to “tvOS” found in the game’s code presages support.

Fortnite leaker Storm posted a screenshot showing the reference buried in the next translation of the hexadecimal code.

Sorry, Fortnite's not heading to Apple TV

If all goes accurate, you can connect a controller to Apple TV and no, you probably won’t have to play via the remote. Given that the Android Fortnite version debuted in conjunction with Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy Note 9, it’s very much possible that it could debut in September during Apple’s annual hardware announcements.
