When it comes to different ways of using a controller for the Nintendo Switch, also big fans of the Pro Controller and, to be absolutely honest, we don’t mind using the JoyCons in the Grip, either. The pattern that doesn’t mean we don’t think there are better controllers out there, but if you’re a Sony fan then you are likely very well attached to your DualShock 4 controller.
Now, thanks to a tiny USB adapter that lets you use a PS4’s DualShock 4 controller with your Nintendo Switch in a very easy way.
Created by 8Bitdo, is known for its retro-inspired Bluetooth controllers, so of course, this adapter is compatible with 8Bitdo products. The packaging indicates that it’s “for PC, Mac, [Raspberry Pi] and Switch.” This USB adapter actually allows a number of different controllers to be connected to the Switch, including all of the ones 8Bitdo makes as well as the PS3’s DualShock 3 and DualShock 4 for PlayStation 4 game consoles from Sony.
However, 8Bitdo’s newest USB adapter can pair a PS4 controller to a Switch right now. Plus, the Super Mario-inspired design is very much cute. You can just hook up a PlayStation DualShock 4 controller and go to town on some demons.
The 8Bitdo Wireless USB adapter allows you to pair various wireless controllers to other systems with no lag time, same as using it with Nintendo Switch. According to the Wireless USB Adapter product page, it will also capable to pair with PS3 and PS4 DualShock controllers, as well as Nintendo Wii Remotes, Joy-Cons, and Pro Controllers.
If you have any of the Nintendo’s modern controllers, ranging from Wii remote to the Wii U Pro Controller, they’ll work just great. All this for just $19.99 at Amazon availability.
There are USB adapters on the market that serve similar functions at a comprehensive price point – Nexilux’ Game Genie for example – but 8Bitdo’s excellent track record when it comes to peripherals, not to mention the fun Super Mario-inspired design, and using the familiar and comfortable DualShock controllers on more robust Switch games, especially fighting games, is exciting news. As aforementioned, the adapter looks very much like Super Mario bricks down to the 8-bit clouds on the packaging.
It’s available to order from Amazon right now, and if you ever thought that Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a great title, no wonder if it could be improved by using a controller as well balanced as the PS4’s, then this little doohickey is exactly what you need to get your hands on.
We don’t either think you’re going to be disappointed. If you, like us, have a load of controllers lying around then this would also be a great way of saving money – those Switch Pro Controllers don’t come cheap, and neither do pairs of JoyCons!
Final word, it looks amazing!
