Xiaomi after quite a few leaks and speculations, has finally announced the company’s latest fitness tracker, Mi Band 2. Unveiled today, the Mi Band 2 is originally the third installment of the extremely popular wearable, but nevertheless offers a major upgrade over its predecessors.
When compared, the Mi Band 2 with its earlier variants, Mi Band and Mi Band Pulse, it has 0.42-inch OLED display that shows time, steps and also heart rate when you just tap the button below the screen. Or else, you can even set it to show up the time and steps when you lift the band.
The new Mi Band 2 comes with lot more tech on-board. On top of the already familiar step counter, sleep tracker, heart rate measurement and notification alerts, now the accessory has an OLED display instead of the usual three LED array and a round physical button on its front. As aforementioned, this allows the Mi Band 2 to show the time, as well as the step count and heart rate right there on the device screen itself.
According to the company, it has upgraded pedometer algorithm for more accurate heart rate tracking and gathering better fitness and sleep data. Similar to the first two Bands, this new Mi Band has IP67 ratings for water resistance and brings with it a new wristband design which is made of more skin-friendly material and doesn’t slip out of your hands that easily. This will undoubtedly hel you get more use of the unit even while untethered from a phone, but the Mi Band 2 will still serve as an extension to your handset via the use of its Bluetooth 4.0 connection.
The band will notify you for calls, messages, and of course events from third-party apps with an icon. Thanks to the OLED display, Xiaomi traditionally active community will have even more to work with when integrating custom features for an even better experience. Other features includes an impressive 20-day battery life. Xiaomi has also managed to preserve the tantalizing price point as best as possible and indeed planning to sell the Mi Band 2 for $23 on the local market.
The Mi Band 2 also allow users set customized alerts to nudge you to move, if you are sitting in a place for a long time.
