A new Pokemon Go update version 1.23.1 for iOS and 0.53.1 for Android is now available to download on their respective app stores right immediately. New updated Pokemon Go versions rolling out and should appear on compatible devices soon. Here’s what is new and changed.
In the process of being updated to new versions, Pokemon Go for Android contains just a few release notes and changlog. Given the fact that this is relatively small incremental update, there isn’t much for Trainers to sink their teeth into even though this is the first update for Pokemon Go to request in the year 2017.
However, it’s still a very welcom update, and one that looks to enhance the Pokemon Go experience for all users across all supported platforms. With the official notes, Trainers will now receive a better experience when using the app on the Apple Watch. Specific changes now mean that Apple Watch owners will get a visual notification when Eggs are dished out when a Trainer interacts with a PokéStop. Niantic has prepared a new update for Pokemon Go that also improved the underlying logic which is used to track the distance covered by Trainers as part of an effort to “better account for GPS drift“.
Actually, the GPS drifts occurs when the game registers you as moving when you originally aren’t, and players would often take advantage of this in order to rack up distance traveled while sitting at work or school. It seems like Niantic has fixed this, and GPS drift will no longer occur.
Since the last Pokemon Go update was released a while back; Niantic generally puts one out every two weeks, but the previous one came almost a full month ago. With the long delay was almost certainly just due to the holidays, but this still created a lot of expectations among players who hoped for an update finally arrived, quite significantly.
This week’s patch would simply adjust the Apple Watch app and remove the one glitch players actually liked, fans were not exactly thrilled of. As with all updates to the app, there are also a number of minor bug and text fixes which have been put in place to better enhance the overall Pokemon Go experience. Fans may be a bit angry about the update that doesn’t bring with it any new content, such as additional generation two Pokemon; rather, they were hoping that the patch would fix some of the glitches that persist in Pokemon Go, including the one that causes the game to freeze when players enter the Gym.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that these updates often tweaks things without making mention of the fact in the patch notes. The latest updates should be in place of propagating through the relevant app stores, and should eventually show up as an available update sooner rather than later.
These update often contain code that clues us into what the game company is planning, such as when players noticed references to “buddy” Pokemon in an update before that feature was even announced. The update is yet another indication that Niantic is committed to providing as much support as possible to Trainers, and ensuring that the game itself is continually kept up to date and relevant.
Unknown facts on how many incremental upgrades that we’ve been seeing recently, it’s only a matter of time until Niantic releases a large update which really takes the gameplay to the next level and entices some of those lost users back to the augmented reality world of Pokemon.
