Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P To Get Google Assistant Via Android Security Update

It seems that Google Assistant, the company’s own artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice assistant will be making its way to Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P soon. Here are the details.

On Pixel and Pixel XL, AI Assistant was one of the best secured feature found itself a place which is now said to be arriving on Nexus devices, such as LG-made Nexus 5X and Huawei-made Nexus 6P, too, to get in a major Android update.

According to 9to5Google‘s Stephan Hall reportedly saying that he was told Google might bring the Pixel’s Assistant to both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P in the future update. In fact, if that happens, then, these devices will be first non-Pixel branded devices to receive the popular Google Assistant feature. It wouldn’t be the first Pixel feature to find its way to the Nexus.

For those unknown about this, Google recently brought the Pixels “fingerprint swipe” gesture, which relatively lets you swipe up and down on the fingerprint sensor to scroll through notifications to the Nexus 5X, due to popular demand. The same manufacturer who made Nexus 5X, has also been planning to launch LG G6 equipped with the virtual assistant. Google Assistant, similar to Google Now, is present on the Home screen and can be launched by a long-press on the home button. While the Assistant is good at understanding context, limiting it to just Google hardware hurts more than it helps since it’ll only be used by the smaller number of Android users who can afford to pay big price for a premium device.

Speaking about those of Android users – the mid-range and even upper-budget tier — are left completely out of the loop. Putting the Assistant on more devices would eventually help expanding its user base and machine-learning capabilities.

It looks like Google’s Nexus devices are not be the only devices that will get the Assistant. Android TV sets also getting it via Nexus Player. Leaks suggesting the Assistant will also be coming the way directly onto the company’s two flagship Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches, which could be announced on February 9.

Possibly, the same goes for LG’s upcoming flagship G6 hardware. Also Read: A First Look At Android Wear 2.0: Announced All New Features In One Place [Video].
