Report: Google Pixel 2 To Release In Three Variants With Snapdragon 835

From the past to the current its expected that two Google Pixel 2 devices will arrive in 2017, and now it appears that there is scope for a third Pixel variant. Furthermore, all three Pixels will be reportedly powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. Here are the details you need to know.

For now, it should be obvious to know that Google will release at least one Pixel 2 phone later this year, though we are going to stick to the Pixel 2 name until someone tells us otherwise. As we have previously addressed that two Pixel device will launch this year, those are yet to be thoroughly leaked or figured out just yet.

If the report today surfaced become true, then all the three Pixel 2 devices will be powered by Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm’s go to CPU for 2017. New Pixel devices this year codenamed “Walleye” and “Muskie”. A leak from AOSP (Android Open Source Project) repository speculating that there is a third device in making. The purpose of that commitment was to add support for the MSM8995, which is the name for the SD835 chip.

On top of all that, there are three codenames listed in that commit, the two already mentioned following the third is “Taimen”. That’s all? No!

The first two of those codenames we are familiar with – based on the size of the fish they refer to, it was deemed that one would be larger Pixel, the other a smaller variant following the theory of a Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The addition of the taimen codename confused matters somewhat, but it’s that particular fish – the largest of all three, which may be possible that an even larger Pixel 2 XL is in the works.

According the previous rumors, the Pixel 2 will be waterproof, also expected to be powered packed by a Snapdragon 835 SoC and comes with an improved camera system. Suggesting a cheaper Pixel device as well, also possible that this mid-range smartphone is the taimen? Considering it too takes advantage of the high-end Snapdragon 835, though.

The Pixel 2’s are said to see at least $50 price increase, so it might start at $699. But we will have to wait for something a little more concrete before we make too many predictions for Google’s next big smartphone releases of 2017.
