Google Pixel 2 Codename Leak May Have Revealed Two Smartphones In The Works

The Pixel and Pixel XL are been the first two Google’s internally-designed handsets, which got a lot of things such as Google Assistant, the best camera sensor and more importantly, released with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. Now, talking about the Pixel successor from Google likely won’t arrive until late 2017, but prior to that we are already thinking about what the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL flagships brings with them. Here are the details what we know so far.

A new leak seems to indicate that Google will have two smartphones in its Pixel 2 line, which appears to be consisted with its strategy of launching different sized handsets in each of the past few years, has begun to show up during its testing phase. Related to the new Pixel 2 phones have been extremely hard to come by, particularly if you want those leaks to have anything about them that makes you think they may be unique.

Only recently Google confirmed for the first time that a Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL release is set for some point in 2017, not giving an exact time frame. Device codenames have been revealed in a new report, now. Did you know: Google Pixel And Pixel XL Hacked In 60 Seconds At PwnFest 2016 [Video]

Leaks have been passed information from an unnamed source, with that saying now corroborated by the appearance of at least one codename in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) garret. “Walleye” is the name that opened up in the logs for the project, with believing that this is the codename for the smaller of the two new Pixel 2 devices.

While the larger variant, believed to be called “Muskie,” has yet to appear in the logs, though, that is not uncommon – last year’s Pixel XL never showed up either, which directly points at it to be the Pixel 2 XL.

So, what can we read from these two semi-confirmed codenames? Likely, it says that walleye boots:

If you want to do a bit tea leaf reading on the names (which I don’t generally advise), walleyes and muskies are both North American freshwater fish, with muskies being a considerably larger animal. Anything beyond that is probably not worth the mental gymnastics.

With the real idea of release schedules and absolutely no idea as to what the speculations of the unannounced device will be, we only have option to wait for more reliable leaks to appear on this segment. Now that we know the codenames for both new Pixel phones, but it may make it a little easier to spot leaks moving forward.

Other Pixel 2 details, including specs, prices, and even availability dates, are not available at this time. We simply anticipate the phones will be shipping at some point in October, giving us plenty of time to learn more about what the two Pixel 2 family has.
