Download And Install MIUI 7 Beta ROM On Your Xiaomi Devices, Here’s How To [Tutorial]

Xiaomi has released the highly-anticipated MIUI 7 global ROM in India. Based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and the refresh version of firmware brinsg with it lot of new features and improvements. You can download ROM manually or through OTA, where the company has started rolling out the MIUI 7 beta ROM for supported devices. Here’s full step-by-step guide on how you can do so.

The MIUI 7 ROM brings upgraded user interface, improved battery management and 30% faster response time along with some best features such as support for facial ecognition in photos, Child Mode, customizable Themes and support 21+ Indian languages. Some other interesting features includes the form of Visual IVR, which indeed let user navigate through the IVR menu without listening to them.


The ROM offers support for ten Indian languages and Xiaomi has tied up with 50 companies including ICICI Bank, Citibank, India Railways, Indigo, Spicejet and Tata Sky among others. Now that you can even dial the customer care number, the instructions such as Press 1 for English, Press 2 for Hindi etc, will be displayed on the screen as well.

With Opera Max, Xiaomi tied up with offers smart Data Saving inclusion, which compresses the in-app and browser media, this letting you save up to 50 percent on data usage. XXL Text is another feature where users can change the font into fice different sizesrther offering greater readability. DND is yet another one that wrks in conjunction with Xiaomi’s Mi Band. Once the Wrist Band detects that you’re fallen asleep, your smartphone will automatically go into DND mode (Do Not Disturb). Includes SMS filter, while all text messages you receive from numbers which are not in your contacts list, gets filtered automatically. It also gives you an option to copy OTP passwords right from the notification pop-up. Feature that provides it on top of the notification.


You can now download MIUI 7 beta ROM from here for selected devices: Xiaomi Redmi 2, Redmi 1S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 3G and the Redmi Note 4G.

How to download and install MIUI 7 ROM (Global Beta)

Step 1: Head over to MIUI 7 section on MIUI Forums.

Step 2: Select your smartphone if it’s listed on there. For demonstration I am using my own Redmi 1S. We will be downloading the ROM corresponding to this Redmi 1s – MIUI 7 Global ROM 5.8.22.

Step 3: Here are two links – Fastboot and Recovery. Click on the Recovery link to download .zip file.

Step 4: Now you have the ROM downloaded, rename it to “” and copy the file on your phone’s internal storage in “Download_rom” folder.



Step 5: Launch the “Updater” app on your device and tap on “Reboot to Recovery Mode“.


Step 6: Once in Recovery Mode, you can use ‘Volume +/-” buttons to select up/down and Power Button to confirm. Choose the language, then ‘Install to System One” and select ‘Yes‘.


Your device will now begin the upgrading process. Once it is completed, the device will reboot and there, you have the MIUI 7 beta ROM running on your phone. Enjoy!

Disclaimer – As the MIUI 7 ROM is in beta, it might have some bugs and may not be for everyday use.

Update X1: If you aren’t able to install MIUI 7 beta ROM on your Xiaomi phones, here’s another tip to do so. You can download the Fastboot – Recovery) links from here:  Just after booting it onto your device, rename it to “update” and don’t add .zip, because it will be already there. Once you have done, go to “Updater app” and on the top right corner you will find additional options like the image above (Step 5).  Select the “Choose Update Package”, and continue, it will take you to the place where your file is. Hit the downloaded ROM link and it will automatically takes your device to recovery mode and updates your device. Once completed you will see your device now running on MIUI 7 Global Beta 5.8.22 ROM successfully and you will have all the features as shown in the screenshots below.
