How Simple To Hard Reset / Force Restart iPhone 8 [Guide]

Here’s a simple guide on how to perform a hard reset or reboot / force restart on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus smartphones.

Now that Apple’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus phones are in the hands of excited customers the world over. We have an iFixit iPhone 8 teardown story as well, which have some surprising things to take care of. Today’s setup is all about resetting and backup.

Thanks to the impending arrival of the iPhone X, there are still plenty of people upgraded to new iPhones in their pockets. The iPhone and iPhone 8 Plus are the two new handsets came pre-installed with iOS 11 firmware, and there are going to be times where a hard rest or forced restart are required in some cases.

For the iPhone 8 and 8Plus, the special incantation required to make this happen has changed, apparently. It’s because the previous method would interface with the new Emergency SOS feature that was recently added.

Owners of the older iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, pressing and holding the sleep/wake button as well as the volume button down for around ten seconds would instigate a restart. While holding those buttons now activates the SOS feature. Apple has changed the method this time around in the form of SOS. It cannot go back to the old, as of old method of holding the sleep/wake button and the Home button for the same reason that method was changed for the iPhone 7 – the Home button is no longer a button, as such.

In order to achieve it, we have a new method for carrying out a hard reset & forced restart.

Step 1: Quickly press and then release the Volume Up button.

Step 2: Press and release the Volume Down button.

Step 3: Now press and hold the sleep/wake button – Apple calls this the Side button on iPhone 8/8Plus/X, by the way.

Step 4: Keep on holding it until you see the Apple logo, and release.

That’s all easy. If you ever find yourself in a position where an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus simply refuses to work, this collection of button presses should get you out of it. The same solution/method will also go for the iPhone X when it arrives on November 3rd.
