Next-Generation Google Chromecast 2 Coming With w/backdrop Feeds, Better WiFi, ‘Fast Play’ and More

According to internal documents that 9to5Google has obtained, speaks about the huge updates to the Chromecast platform is around the corner. The hardware is all set to debut at Google’s event later this month, and the newer version of Chromecast 2 will be packing many new features including feeds for the device’s main screen, improved WiFi, an accompained inclusion called “Fast Play,” and many more.

The new Chromecast is said to be out of the box with a circular design, compared to the dongle-like design architecture in its predecessor. Good to know here is that we have managed to grab some of 2nd-Gen Chromecast’s internal images with retail box, though.

Exclusive here is the new Chromecast itself. Based on these images above appears that the device is definitely a deperture fromthe original stock model, leaving behind the “dongle” form factor. Desides it, the fact that it comes in three colors. Design it looks like a balloon? A pair of ear muffs? Google is not only changing the Chromecast dongle’s appearance, in fact it is working on a new era with lot of changes to the inside as well. No specifications have been surfaced as yet, but nevertheless, we’ve learned that one of the big changes Google is bringing to this version is improved Wi-Fi with faster 802.11ac band, whereas the original Chromecast only supported 802.11/b/g/n.


The second-generation referred to as the “new Chromecast,” is also going to include support for content feeds on the Chromecast home screen. What kind of feeds is unknown at the moment, but this probably means adding social media feeds or image feeds that can play when your Chromecast is in its screensaver “backdrop” mode. The Chromecast backdrop is pretty much custimizable in that you can currently toggle things like weather and art, as well as add your own personal photographs.

Next feature would be the “Fast Play”. Impressively, along with the improved WiFi capabilities, “Fast Play” will allow Chromecast to establish a connection much quicker and play content more essentially when pressing the “Cast” button on a connected device. Fast Play on new Chromecast might be the device’s most comelling inclusions.


The 2nd-generation Chromecast will support auxiliary input that would allow you to connect external speakers. Not to be confused with Google Cast for Audio, which is Google’s platform for making speakers and other audio hardware directly compatible with the Chromecast protocols, where Google is also planning to launch “Chromecast Audio,” as well. It allow users Chromecast to plugged directly into any speaker by way of aux cord, providing support to any speaker or audio system in your home. However, this feature according to the document – have multi-room support, the ability to mirror your Chrome or Android audio, and brings “high-quality” sound clarity.


The device is set to be announced at the company’s September 29th media event alongside the new Nexus devices from LG and Huawei rumored to launch. Assumably, the device will be priced similar to the first Chromecast, and will go on sale in at laest 10 countries. Additionally, the new Chromecast will also be getting support from Spotify in its mobile app.
