Huawei Claims P9 Dual-Lens Camera With Photo Taken Using A $4500 DSLR

Huawei’s new P9 smartphone promotion gone wild into the internet web. The said P9 device is pushed as a highly capable camera as much as a smartphone, and the China-based Huawei company is hard at work and keen to show the world just how good the shooter on the device is.

In fact, the company is so desirous to publicize just how impressive its dual-lens camera setup is in P9 and P9 Plus smartphones that it’s gotten caught itself by sharing a photo that wasn’t actually taken using one of its handsets. Nope, it was originally taken on a professional $4,500 DSLR camera instead. Oops!

Unfortunately, Huawei publishes implied P9 camera sample, but EXIF data utterly reveals the $4500 DSLR, and in respond, Huawei removes that showcased photograph. The gaffe came when Huawei posted a photo to Google+, which everyone understandably assumed had taken by the new smartphone, and when Google+ making available ofd all its EXIF data for each uploaded image, it actually didn’t take long for someone to protest that the shot was taken on a Canon 5D Mark III with an EF70-200 f/2.8L IS USM lens.

Great! As smartphone cameras are these days became more impressive as well as the hardware’s RAM management as well, and we are sure the P9 and P9 Plus’ dual-lens camera system definitely is, there’s no competition when you start spending $4,500 on a professional Canon DSLR. It seems Huawei got something wrong. Something badly happend when promoting its P9 and P9 Plus smartphone like this, indeed.

As soon as the internet started pointing out what had happened, the smartphone maker deleted the image from its G+ page, though by that point, the damage had been done, radically.

Here’s the proof:

In its statement, Huawei claimed that the image was taken during the filming of an ad for the new P9 smartphone, at that time it should have made it clear that contary to popular assumption, the image was not taken by a smartphone.

The photo, which was professionally taken while filming a Huawei P9 advert, was shared to inspire our community. We recognise though that we should have been clearer with the captions for this image. It was never our intention to mislead. We apologise for this and we have removed the image.

Although we can’t help it anyway but think that’s not the whole story, especially considering the photo’s caption, which seemed to imply it was taken using the P9.

We managed to catch a beautiful sunrise with Deliciously Ella. The #HuaweiP9’s dual Leica cameras makes taking photos in low light conditions like this a pleasure.
