Huawei Launches Windows 10-Powered MateBook Tablet With Keyboard Case And Stylus

Huawei, the Chinese manufacturer has involed in bringing back its trend by getting into the productivity game and at Mobile Wordl Congress (MWC 2016), introduced its latest hybrid Windows 10 laptop/tablet, called MateBook.

Announced it for $699. The Huawei‘s MateBook is designed to be an alternative to laptops and is thinner than Microsoft’s rival Surface Pro 4 thanks to its use of a USB-C port. It’s conevetible and competes with Apple’s iPad Pro as well, which comes with a Stylus and a keyboard case accessories.

On the software front, the MateBook runs Windows 10 operating system and is specifically designed with a metal unibody and has 12-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2160×1440 pixel screen. It has a thin 10mm bezel and is 6.9mm thick, and weighs in at around 640 grams. It is powered by Intel Core m3, Core m5, and Core m7 processors.

It is available with a memory slot of 4GB or 8GB RAM, whereas the storage options you can find on the MateBook are from 128GB to 512GB SSDs.  Camera setup on the hybrid-laptop, you get an 5MP front-facing shooter. Connectivity options go by a Type-C, WiFi and Bluetooth.

The MateBook is backed up by a 33.7Wh battery and is also integrated with a fingerprint scanner, which is placed right between the two volume buttons on the either side of the notebook-cum-tablet. The keyboard has backlit keys and also has a glass trackpad. Speaking about the MatePen Stylus, comes with 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, also has laser pointers, and an elastomer tip.

Huawei also introduced a doc for MateBook that allows the laptop’s single USB-C port to support two USB 3.0 connectors, Ethernet, HDMI, and VGA etc. Point to be noted is that, the decision to rely on a USB-C port means that older peripherals cannot be attached directly to the machine and it lacks a built-in display port. In order to gain USB 2.0 and external display connections, users of MateBook will however need to carry an adapter, which includes an ethernet port and the hybrid-tablet have a built-in SD card slot.

No words on the official MateBook availability, but expected to see it release in Asia, Europe, and North America “in coming months”. Pricing details aren’t revealed yet, but the entry-level MateBook will cost $699 (£485 / Rs 48,000 approximately) when it goes on sale later this year, making it $100 cheaper than the basic Surface Pro 4. Goes up to $1,599 (Rs 110,000 roughly) for the top end variant. The keyboard case and doc for the basic model costs $917.  The keyboard costs $129 (Rs 9,000 approximately), the dock $89 (Rs 6,000 approx.), and the pen $59 (Rs 4,000 approximately).
