uTorrent Now Has A Built-in Game Store, Here Are The Details

uTorrent, a BitTorrent.inc owned internet client which has been running for an extremely long time, and managed to crave itself out a position as one of the most popular torrent downloaders of all time. Now, the same uTorrent client has introduced a Game Store to its best download client, offering games for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Here’s everything you need to know about the queitly updated version of uTorrent Game Store.

With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that its parent company is looking forward for better new ways to generate revenue by silently integrating a Game Store into the torrent application. So that users may use it to buy games directly from within uTorrent.

Users of the popular BitTorrent software uTorrent who have updated the client to the latest release version may have spotted by now that the new Game Store entry on start already. It is an integrated store for digital computer games that users of the software may buy straight from the client itself.

Most apps and clients of this nature look to get ahead of the curve by continuously growing and adapting to the marketplace. It seems to feature classic games and independent (not from a major publisher) games right now. Of course not necessarily bad though, these games have quite a few fans as well. That sometimes be as simple as keeping the platform fresh with user-interface revamps, or simple feature and functionality integration.

However, in uTorrent’s case, such above mentioned is the popularity of the app that it seems to have rested on its laurels in that it really hasn’t been put through any significant change for a very long time.

BitTorrent Inc.’s integration of a new Game Store is a new entry in the left sidebar menu of the uTorrent client.  It is listed beneath upgrade to Pro and just before the actual torrents list. While it ensures that most users will notice the new entry right away, perfectly, it is probably not the best location though, for it from a usability point of view.

Without any official announcement, the new Game Store integration may have gone under the radar for most, but it’s one small effort to keep uTorrent fresh and ahead of the package. While the premise behind the Game Store integration is simple enough. In addition to using the platform to download torrents, users are also able to browse through a growing collection of games for platforms like PC, Mac, and Linux systems. These games are typically created and released by indie developers looking to get additional promotions and pushed downloads.

The Store features games compatible to run and play on machines and you may browse in front for some suggestions, or click on the more link to browse the whole catelog and use the built-in filtering system. What’s particularly interesting about this integration is that it doesn’t actually showcase the full power of uTorrent by actually using the app and its underlying technology to purchase and download the game to the machine. Instead, users are pushed to the Steam listing for the title and asked to validate and download via Steam’s infrastructure.

The selection of games in the catalog is limited right now which is definitely something that the team needs to work on. From a user perspective, it is how the actual buying and downloading of games happens is a bit more problematic. Soon, uTorrent Client Considers Ways To Make Users Pay With Its Revenue P2P Model

Payment options may differ depending on the country that you access the store from. In Germany, PayPal and credit card payments are supported as well as a service to make a direct transfer from your bank account to the service. And, all these payment options are integrated directly in the uTorrent client, meaning that any part of the payment process is handled in uTorrent otherwise.

It seems that BitTorrent Inc. didn’t want to make a song and dance about the Game Store integration into uTorrent for one particular reason or another, but it’s finally there, and it’s available to use for those who want to purchase some indie games as well as contribute to the opening support and maintenance of uTorrent in the progression.

It offers an advantage over making the same purchase on Steam directly. As games are provided as Steam keys that uTorrent users need to redeem on the Steam gaming platform. In fact, Steam Sale is going on right now makes that difficult, and if games are offered for a discounted price when compared to Steam, it may be able to generate some attraction, but it the pricing is identical, there’s a little incentive to buy using uTorrent’s Game Store.

Note: The uTorrent client includes third-party offers during installation. BitTorrent Inc plans to put more focus on uTorrent, aimed at diversifying income were not as successful as hoped. The company already added uTorrent Plus, a subscription-based version back in 2011 that does away with ads and comes with additional benefits such as a media converter, etc.
