iOS 11.4 Public Beta 1 Download Now Available For Testers

Following yesterday’s developer betas, Apple has today seeded iOS 11.4 and tvOS 11.4 public betas to those who are part of the public beta software program.

This release is no different which has often come days after the developer release, although the two different beta programs have today both seen significant releases almost simultaneously.

What’s new in the first iOS 11.4 beta? Where the latest pre-release build is concerned, it suggests we’ll see HomePod gain stereo when the software update is ready, but again, the feature requires an unreleased version of the HomePod software to test. While AirPlay 2 testing requires Apple TV 4 or Apple TV 4K with tvOS 11.4 developer or public beta.

And, both Apple’s developer program requires a paid membership, Apple’s public beta program is free for participants (but with stability risks), Apple also offers public beta versions of iOS, tvOS, and macOS (but not watchOS).

The only thing we can admit is the fact that iOS 11.4 to include AirPlay 2 for those who have multiple HomePods and want to able to listen to them as a stereo pair. It’s only available once iOS 11.4 has been installed on those HomePods as well. So that’s out of reach keeping in mind if you’ve been waiting to make the most of your two Siri-capable speakers.

From yesterday’s iOS 11.4 and tvOS 11.4 developer betas, the first includes both AirPlay 2 and Messages on iCloud for testing, and the second, the tvOS 11.4 can be used for AirPlay 2 testing.

Additional changes, improvements, and new features will come to light in the coming hours and days as people try to get the grips with what this new iOS 11.4 beta release brings to the table.

Anyone, part of the public iOS beta testing can get their hands on a configuration profile via the beta.apple.com website right now. Once installed onto the device that you will be sacrificing for the sake of beta process, the profile will enable that device to download future beta releases over-the-air.

This method of updating any other iOS update would work, rather using an alternative old days method to download IPSW files and manually updating via iTunes – you remember iTunes, don’t you?

Update x1: tvOS 11.4 public beta 1 can be downloaded if you’re registered members of Apple Beta Software Program.
