iPhone SE 2 Leaks Out, Glass Back For Wireless Charging, No Notch, But Headphone Jack Remains

Otherwise, the iPhone SE 2 rumor mill is rolling out into the wild, with many conflicting reports about the device, ranging from its major chassis change to only a minor hardware revision. As of now, the second-generation iPhone SE is more than the biggest news right now with an update very much overdue.

One of those rumors often widely conflicting claims is that the iPhone SE 2 will borrow from the iPhone 8 and iPhone X by shipping with a glass back in order to allow for wireless charging and a new leak may just confirm that to be the case.

Photos and a video has also been shared via Chinese social media Weibo, showing a redesigned iPhone SE which does look very much like the leaked shell that we saw last month. If not the case, there are other elements that the new iPhone SE may get before its official launch.

In fact, the leaks also reveal significant design decisions and alleged that the iPhone SE 2 won’t ditch the audio jack, too. While the current iPhone SE features an aluminum design that would prevent wireless charging from being included as a feature. With the move of replacing it with a glass construction, it would mean the next iPhone SE would be able to join the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X bandwagon in the wireless charging club. This is something that many have argued should be a given for all iPhones from now on.

These purported pictures to show a fully built iPhone SE 2, with resemblances to some leaked shells, which they depict a device somewhere in between the two extremes of the rumored specs; a new glass back for wireless charging but a 3.5mm hole for headphone jack remains safe.

One notable point, assuming these photos are legitimate, is the inclusion of the headphone jack. The rear markings reflect the latest generation of US iPhones, which only feature the word ‘iPhone’ and lack regulatory FCC logos.

Considering Apple has not shipped a headphone jack on a new iPhone release since the iPhone 7 in 2016 then the addition of one inclusion on the smallest iPhone it makes would be a puzzling action, although you never really can double guess what Jony Ive and his band of merry designers will do.

While the pictures also indicate that the iPhone SE 2 will include some design tweaks on the rear side, the front construction beyond the glass back of the phone looks almost identical to the current iPhone SE. Same Touch ID Home sensor placed, same display, same front camera layout, and same bezels.

If other rumors are to be believed then we could see the iPhone SE announced in the coming weeks, or else at the WWDC 2018 keynote. Until then, waiting is the only thing we can do before we know exactly what the updated handset will feature. Apple’s flagship 2018 iPhones — such as the iPhone X Plus — are scheduled for a fall debut.
