Finally, it’s here. Kodi for Xbox One download is now available as initial 18.0-Alpha 1 release. Details on this are fully covered and gone live as soon as Kodi team announced that 64-bit version of Kodi 18 Leia for Windows is now at feature parity with a 32-bit version.
Kodi for Xbox One was originally announced back in February this year and taken almost 12 months to officially land on the box since that announcement.
This is the first Alpha release of Kodi 18 for Windows 64-bit, was a big deal. Offering the first 64-bit native version of Kodi for Windows users try was a major step for the developer and the application itself.
Now that the folks behind Kodi have updated us to confirm that Kodi 64-bit is able to offer feature parity with its 32-bit cousin. And it means that anyone wanting to run Kodi 64-bit no longer has to accept the limitations that it brought with it. Also, installing the 32-bit version of Kodi will see a warning pop up suggesting that the 64-bit version will be installed instead.
Announced yesterday via an update to the original Kodi 64-bit post. That reads:
The 64-bit Kodi version for Windows is now feature complete and on same level as 32-bit. From now on the 32-bit installer will include a warning to ask you to install the 64-bit instead. This upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit version is seamless and you just need to install on top of the old version.
If you have not already upgraded to the 64-bit version of Kodi, then it is suggested you do that now from kodi.tv/download. As the developer notes, simply installing over the old 32-bit version is the easiest way to go down, and should work without issue.
For those of you who were too young to remember, Kodi was originally called XBMC (XBOX Media Center) and was first released on the original Xbox way back in the year 2014. But later found more popularity on other platforms when it was released on them. It’s then the go-to platform for cord-cutters and media enthusiasts with a growing community, a huge array of both first party and third-party add-ons, and much more.
Coming to Kodi for Xbox One back, Kodi is being rolled out on Xbox One region-wise, and is available as initial v18.0 Alpha release. How to get it? Type in the search box for “Kodi” on Microsoft Store on the Box. You should be able to find and download/install it right away. Provided you are in the region which is part of this initial launch-wave.
Note: Kodi for Xbox One is a UWP app, meaning it should support almost everything, if not all features of Windows 10 for PC desktops and notebooks.
We will keep you updated about anything more comes out on this release of Kodi for Xbox One. Stay tuned and tight!
