Apple is reportedly working on updates across its entire product lineup for the second half of 2018. In fact, the reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared something this morning, with refreshes expected for iPhone, iPad, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, iMac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and others.
A new research note from Kuo highlights what he believes will from Apple’s upcoming fall lineup of new hardware announcements. By all means, the analyst is generally extremely accurate when formulating opinion and predictions for how Apple will perform and what the company will announce in near future.
It looks to be an exciting year for Apple as updates to nearly all of its product lineup are predicted now. Much of what Kuo has to share has already been slated before, but he provides a nice overview of what we can expect to see this year along with some interesting new titbits on Apple’s upcoming product range.
Before we go forward into detailing we have to admit that the analyst has already had his say on Apple’s expected 2018 iPhone lineup, and now adding to that note by suggesting an insight into Apple’s plans for iPad, the Apple Watch, and even a new range of Mac and Mac mini hardware refresh as it looks to see out this fall in style.
Apple Products Lineup Highlights
iPhone: Apple is expected to debut three new iPhones this coming September including a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone, a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone (low-cost), and a 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X successor. All three will feature Face ID and upgraded A12 processors. While the two OLED models will have dual-lens cameras, the entry-level smaller variant will feature a single-lens camera.
iPad Pro: Apple is also expected to introduce brand new iPad Pro models complete with Face ID and the removal of the physical Home button. Otherwise, this hardware refresh will likely come in two new 11 and 12.9-inch configurations that are equipped with a full-screen design similar to the iPhone X. Smartphone lovers will not only appreciate what Apple has in store for them but also real iPad owners who will get the treat with revamped hardware complete with Face ID and a TrueDepth camera.
Apple Watch: Here’s what we have is a hint that Apple is working on two new Apple Watch models for 2018 that will have larger displays and enhanced heart rate detection features. The two Apple Watch Series will measure in at 1.57 inches (39.9mm) and 1.78 inches (45.2mm), roughly around 15% bigger than in the current models. Rumors have not yet hit the web clearly stating whether the Apple Watch itself will be larger or if the bigger display will come from a reduction in bezels.
Mac Mini: There is also a prediction that Apple’s Mac lineup will benefit from a number of upgrades, including chip improvements for MacBook Pro, MacBook, and even a brand new iMac, which is being classified as a “significant display upgrade.” The new refresh to MacBook and MacBook Pro will get processor upgrades. Kuo didn’t have enough information to share on the Mac Mini, but he believes a processor upgrade is expected. It’s not clear if additional upgrades will be included, such as a redesigned chassis, but at least some kind of refresh is on the horizon.
New Low-Priced Notebook: The analyst believes Apple is designing a new low-cost variant of Notebook. This would be in the MacBook Air family but now has changed his mind. Previous rumors have suggested this machine could be a 12-inch MacBook. So, Apple may be planning to expand the MacBook lineup with an additional low-price option to replace the MacBook Air.
iMac: Kuo says to expect a significant display performance upgrade. This will not be iMac Pro. The analyst does not go into detail about what this will entail and we haven’t heard additional iMac rumors at this time. Instead, he says the iMac, like other Macs, will get a processor refresh.
Other Apple product refresh predictions include AirPower, and AirPods 2 to take into consideration. Bot accessories are expected to go into mass production and be available through physical and digital stores without any inventory issues.
Update: Apple is expected to launch updated AirPods as well as the previously announced AirPower charging mat later this fall. Recent rumors have said Apple is aiming for a September launch for the AirPower.
Final word, Kuo doesn’t provide details on when we might see refreshes to Apple’s other product lines, but the company could be planning to launch all of its new products at its annual September 2018 event.
