It’s now official. Gionee has announced that it has corraborated with Foxconn to produce its manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh and finally launched its first Made in India smartphone in the country, called Gionee F103.
The Chinese manufacturer has introduced its latest Gionee F103 smartphone made by Foxconn in Siri City in presence of AP Chief Minister, and claims to have sold 7 million devices in the country so far and aims to double sales with domestic manufacturing.
“I am really happy to welcome Gionee in Andhra Pradesh. We will ensure that the company faces no hurdles in its Make in India initiative and will provide all the support,” said the Chief Minister.
Although, Gionee has partnered with Foxconn to manufacture its F and P series smartphones at the Sri City facility and Gionee F103 is the foremost from the stable, and to add some glimpse to the news, has alsp tied up with Dixon to produce deature phones and other hardwares at its Delhi-NCR facility.
“We would be working towards making India a manufacturing hub for not just local consumption but also for nearby countries. Also, with local manufacturing, we are now keen on making India centric products,” said William Lu, President, Gionee.“Going forward we are looking at nurturing a local ecosystem for hardware manufacturing. We are helping several vendors to come to India. We have already invested Rs 300 crores in local manufacturing and will invest more in future to boost R&D for local software,” said Arvind Vohra, Country CEO & MD, Gionee India.

The smartphone itself sports a 5-inch HD IPS display at a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels that too with Dragontrail glass protection. Gionee F103 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 64-bit processor coupled with Mali-T720 GPU, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Software on the Gionee F103, you’ll find Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system with Amigo 3.1 UI skin on top. It comes with a Dual SIM and Dual Standby that supports 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and the whole gadget is backed by a 2,400mAh battery package.
Now that the Gionee F103 camera setup goes with an 8MP Auto-Focus rear sensor with LED flash, treated with F/2.2 aperture and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with F/2.0 aperture to betterfy selfies. Avialable in Pearl White, Dawn White and Black color options.
The Gionee F103 is priced at Rs 9,999 and comes with an expandable microSD card support up to 32GB, which we missed above. The company will be investing $50 million over next three years for its Make in India plan.
