Two new smartphones announced by Gionee. One from its Martahon series Plus with big battery-package and the second is M5 Enjoy. Both Gionee handsets are said to be powerhouses, called the Marathon M5 Plus and Martahon M5 Enjoy. Launched in China, addessring one notable omission from the orignal M5’s specssheet – fingerprint sensor.
Features and Specs
The Gionee M5 Plus is obviously be sitting on top of the Marathon series and that too on the higher segment of the midrange. The smartphone comes with a significantly more powerful MediaTek MT6753 SoC clocked at an octa-core CPU. With a 3GB of RAM on-board, same found on M5, but this time added 64GB to the internal storage levels, and further it can also be expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.
The New M5 Plus features a 6-inch FullHD AMOLED display. The smartphone measures 160.9 x 81.2 x 8.4mm, which is reasonably compact for the screen and battery size of 5020mAh, and weighs in at 208g. Where the M5’s sheet reads 5.5-inch 720p HD and 6020mAh battery.
The 13MP main camera on the back of Marathon M5 Plus comes with phase detection autofocus and a single LED flash, whereas the front-cam sports a 5MP sensor for better selfie shots. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the front in place embedded into the home button that promises recognition time of 0.5 seconds. Fast charging is supported and is done via a reversible Type-C connector, though it only adheres to the USB 2.0 standard.
The M5 Plus supports multi-band LTE and 2G/3G, as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Gionee Amigo OS 3.1 UI skin. Priced at CNY 2,499 ($385), the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is available for purchase right away in China.
The Gionee Marathon M5 Enjoy packs a 5000mAh battery and has 5.5-inch (1280 × 720 pixels) HD IPS display with 2.5D arc glass. It is powered by 1.3GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6735 64-bit processor with Mali-T720 GPU and coupled with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and expandable via microSD card up to 128GB. Software it runs on what M5 Plus runs on Android Lollipop with Amigo 3.1 OS. It has a Dual SIM function that supports 4G LTE connectivity, offering 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB OTG.
Photography department on the M5 Enjoy, you will find an 8-megapixel Auto Focus primary camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording and a 5-megapixel Selfie-centric shooter. There’s a Fingerprint scanner on the front in place of the capacitive home key of other Gionee models.
The Marathon M5 Enjoy is more modestly priced, compared to the Plus, and goes for CNY 1,999 ($310). Available in Golden color, you can order it from the Gionee’s official online store in China. It will go on sale live from Christmas day, December 25.
