The latest online-only Lenovo’s Zuk Z1 available to purchase will be the first product from the Chinese manufacturer, aimed at countering the rise of Xiaomi in China, which of course has followed a low-cost online-only model. Following the LeTV “Superphones” and the new comer “OnePlus 2”, here’s yet another China-based smartphone that support the reversible USB Type-C port.
As aforementioned, this is the first product by Lenovo-baked startup ZUK (pronounced “z-u-k) to compete with affordable online brands like Meizu, Smartisan and Hauwei as well, including the oft-mentioned company’s gadgets as well.
The Lenovo ZUK Z1 features metal frames around the phone and adds no branding from Lenovo, but you will however see a Zuk logo branding at the back of the handset. Packs a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display at 1500:1 contrast ratio, is powered by a 2.5GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU with Adreno 330 graphics GPU, paired with 3GB of LPPDDR3 RAM, 64GB of internal storage.
The dual Nano-SIM ZUK Z1 runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with ZUI, support 4G connectivity (TDD-LTE bands 38, 39, 40, 41, FDD-LTE bands 1, 3, 7) on both. Camera on its front-facing it has an 8MP OmniVision OV8865 Selfie sensor and on its back it poses with a 13MP camera setup with LED Flash, Sony IMX214 Exmor RS sensor, OIS, 1.12um pixels, f/2.2 aperture. Interestingly, this smartphone has a home button with built-in fingerprint sensor sports a physical home button on the front panel. The company calls it U-Touch that act as a Home button when hard pressed, Back button on touch and double-clicked for multitasking
The Lenovo’s Zuk Z1 features the USB Type-C 3.0 port which offer up to 10 times faster data transfer compared to USB 2.0. The Z1 boasts a USB data rate of up to 500 MB/s or 10 times that of USB 2.0. It measures 155.7×77.3×8.9mm and weighs 175 grams, while offering all the usual WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS / GLONASS, USB 3.0 Type-C connectivity options including a Batterry package of 4100mAh unit, that too with 5.3V-2.5A fast charger it takes just 2.5 hours to charge fully.
Available to buy in White and Grey colors, the Lenovo ZUK Z1 is priced at 1799 Yuan ( US$ 284 / Rs. 18,280 approx) and price point is of no surprise in today’s market. The smartphone will go on sale starting August 18. Registrations for the sale on its website from here.
