Just after making Lumia 550 available in Europe last week, Microsoft has today launched it in India, as the company’s cheapest smartphone running Windows 10 Mobile out of the box.
Previously, in this month of December it was made available to purchase in select Europen markets for $139 USD. Today the Redmond-based software maker has actually launched Lumia 550 In india, which will be going on sale starting Wednesday.
Priced at Rs 9,399, Microsoft has confirmed the Lumia 550 unlike its high-end handsets such as Lumia 950 Dual SIM and Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM, will not support Windows 10 Continuum functionality, which evidently turns smartphones into a PC with a desktop-tyle interface.
Nevertheless, the new Lumia 550 indeed packs the latest web browser, called Microsoft Edge – revamped with Outlook mail, OneDrive, MS Office, Cortana digital voice assistance, and Glance Screen – lets user see notifications without fully unlocking the handset.
Specifications-wise, the Lumia 550 Windows 10 handset features a 4.7-inch HD display with a resolution screen of 1280 x 720 pixel with a pixel density of 315 PPI engine. Under the hood, the hardware is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset with Adreno 304 GPU and it is paired with 1GB of RAM.
On the storage front, it includes an 8GB of internal memory which can further expandable up to 200GB via microSD card slot. It supports 4G LTE (Cat.4) bands for india using the single micro-SIM card, which is claimed to deliver download speeds of up to 150Mbps and uploads of up to 50Mbps. Connectivity onb the Lumia 550 also adds wireless options such as Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with hotspot, FM radio, and A-GPS.
The Microsoft’s Lumia 550 photography department sports a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with HD video recording, LED flash, and an f/2.4 aperture and features such as auto/ manual exposure, geo-tagging, and touch focus. There’s a 2MP sensor placed upfront with an f/2.8 aperture and 480p video recording.
It also boasts a Micro-USB port instead of USB Type-C and is backed by a 2100mAh battery which is replaceable unit, rated to deliver up to 28 days of standby time, 16 hours of talk time on 2G, 14 hours on 3G, and 17 hours on 4G. It features ambient light sensor, accelerometer, and proximity sensors. The handset measures 136.1×67.8×9.9mm.
