Microsoft’s Budget-Priced Lumia 550 Windows 10 Mobile Hits European Market

Starting today, Microsoft Lumia 550 – the company’s most affordable 4G LTE smartphone running Windows 10 with an all-new Microsoft Edge browser is available in select markets at $139 USD. Lumia 550 was actually announced as a more budget phone alongside the flagships Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL in October, and now, it has been made available to purchase in some European stores.

Customers looking for an affordable Windows 10 Lumia phone can turn their attention to Microsoft Lumia 550. Sales begin in Europe, followed in the coming weeks by other regions around the world.

The operating system offers distinctive new features and a similar look and experience across PCs, tablets and phones and it could be the company’s last attempt to convince consumers to give its new mobile phones a try. Equipped with a 4.7-inch 1280×720-pixels HD display, the Lumia 550 is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor that includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be increased up to 200GB via microSD card slot.

It has a 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash, f/2.4 aperture, 720p video recording and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.8 aperture, 480p video recording support and is backed by 2100mAh battery package.

However, the Lumia 550 lacks two Windows 10 features offered by both of which Lumia 950/950XL are higher-priced but offer beefier specs. Windows Helio biometric recognition isn’t supported, so you won’t be able to use your face or fingerprint to unlock the phone. Windows 10 Continuum is also missing here, and you can’t set up a Microsoft Display Dock with an accompanying monitor, mouse and keyboard to use the handset as a desktop PC replacement.

With outdoor readability enhancements, you can create, edit or view your PowerPoint presentations or Excel spreadsheets on the go. The Lumia 550 hands-on, you can stay connected with friends via Skype, Facebook, Twitter, or WhatsApp. Offers signature Microsoft apps and services such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Cortana, OneDrive, Outlook Mail and Outlook Calendar, and Skype etc.

To make sure you can access your documents online, the Lumia 550 connects using LTE bands reaching download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and uploads of up to 50 Mbps.
