Amazon hasn’t yet released its new Echo Dot speaker since 2016, but today, the newly leaked photos appear to depict a third-generation model. If they are real, then Alexa ditching the black plastic in favor of fabric.
Amazon’s Echo Dot is the smallest of the range or lineup, and as such, has also a pretty low price tag. Now it seems like Amazon is very much gearing up to make an announcement of a follow-up to the smart speaker option.
The company. according to the latest hint of planning to announce its new era of Echo Dot speaker in the future. That third-gen model could be released within the next couple of months.
Where Amazon has had a pretty successful run with its Echo lineup, the range of smart speakers offering different use cases at various price points. And Amazon taking time, considering the Echo Dot hasn’t been updated since two years, so it’s certainly due for an upgrade.
The images reportedly showed on by AFTVnews and first published by French publications Numerama and FrAndroid, reveal the fact that Amazon is making some significant design changes to its most affordable Alexa device.
The leaked images also show a new smart speaker design that is quite a bit different than what Amazon currently has on the market. So it’s the third-generation Echo Dot that will offer a more unique/rounded design this time around, moving away from the flat design. As aforementioned, there appears to be more fabric running around the side of the device, too.
With the third-generation Echo Dot, it looks like Amazon will ditch the glossy black plastic and flat top of the current model for a more rounded, softer appearance. Apparently, there’s fabric running around the side, which at least give it an aesthetic that’s similar to the latest Echo and one that’s also very close to Google’s Home Mini.
Presumably, it is not lit up in the photos, but the round LED lights will be there for visual indication that the Echo Dot is being used. This means that the signature round LED is still there which is not illuminated in either of the leaked shots, as are the same four physical buttons up the top of the device. The third-generation Dot speaker is slightly bigger than the second-generation Echo Dot model. That’s because Amazon is trying to improve the overall audio quality of the speaker – just as it did with its last update of the flagship Echo speaker.
Amazon’s hardware announcements do happen in the month of September every year, so as the next Echo Dot coming down the pipe. The same time when Google might have planned for its Home lineup in October.
Amazon’s Echo Dot is a most affordable smart speaker, but if the company is going for a slightly bigger design this time around, and with a focus on improving audio quality, one has to wonder if Amazon is also planning on hiking the price a bit.
Would you buy a new Echo Dot if the price going up? A nicer appearance be enough for you to upgrade your Dot?
