It seems like Apple has pushed the launch of HomePod speaker in early 2018. Apple promised at the 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference in June, when the company unveiled much-rumored Siri-based speaker, the HomePod, will debut this year itself. But it now shows another timeframe.
In a statement, Apple says that it needs more time to work on the HomePod, which is designed to reinvent the way music is enjoyed in the home, and. according to Apple, it does something that no other company has managed to do – combines a smart speaker with incredible sound.
Reason why Apple pushed back HomePod release date to early 2018
The company’s newest product, Apple’s highly-anticipated HomePod is essentially a Siri-powered speaker with focus on high-quality sound and a direct Amazon Echo competitor. Originally slated for a release this coming December just in time for Holiday shopping. Now that, Apple says, the cylindrical HomePod isn’t quite ready yet and needs a little more time to make it to market.
According to an Apple spokesperson, HomePod just needs “a little more time” before it’s ready for public consumption:
“We can’t wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple’s breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it’s ready for our customers,” an Apple spokesperson said. “We’ll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018.”
Priced at $349, the HomePod is slated to take on higher-end sound systems like Sonos, as well as smart assistants like the Google Home and Amazon’s Echo. This Siri-authenticated speaker features a seven-speaker array of tweeters, a four-inch subwoofer, and a six-microphone array, which puts it right on par spec-wise with the best speakers in its price range.
But where it may fall short is Siri, which isn’t actually in the same class as Alexa or Google AI Assistant. The challenges are likely why Apple’s focus at the launch of the HomePod was music first and smart features second.
Although Apple may have had success with iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X in recent weeks, as well as Apple TV 4K and Apple Watch Series 3, the actual counting on the enthusiasm around HomePod for this Christmas. This delay may only be a matter of weeks or months depending on when it gets released in next year. In fact, it remains to be seen how many consumers will be disappointed with the delay.
HomePod: Conclusion On Early 2018 Launch
The Apple’s HomePod is powered by the company’s own A8 chip and comes with a premium seamless mesh fabric aesthetic. This gives it flawless lines and stands it out from the competition. With no firm release date – early 2018 is vague at best – it could be a while before we otherwise see the HomePod on sale. Because Apple AirPods faced similar delay but the company managed to make them available in time for Christmas 2016.
Let’s hope there are no further delays for HomePod next year, but, as always, we’ll keep you updated.
