Apple’s New iOS 9 Adoption Reaches 50% In Record Time

Apple has announced that iOS 9 is the fastest installed software update ever, with more than 50% of active devices running the latest mobile operating system version as measured by the App Store on September 19. Less than a week after Apple’s iOS 9 finally makes its way onto iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices at an adoption rate of 50 percent, which is enourmous when compared to the company’s iOS 8 version released last year took 5 days to reach 46% installation.

However the iOS 9 adoption has already past 50% rate, Apple says this is the fastest ever rate ever seen for a new mobile OS iteration. According to Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller, iOS 9 is on track to become the most downloaded software release in Apple’s history. He also said that response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been “incredibly positive,” but no specific sales figures were disclosed.

iOS 9 compatible devices include: Phone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 1, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 1, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPod touch 6 and iPod touch 5. The update brings powerful search and improved Siri features, new multitasking features that two apps at once, side by side on iPad, Picture-in-Picture, detailed transit information in Maps, News app and new capabilities in Apple Pay.

And of course, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus comes running iOS 9 out-of-the-box. Launch on September 25 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the U.K. Last week, Apple said pre-orders for the iPhones are “on pace to beat” last year’s record-breaking 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch weekend.
