Tim Cook took the step forward to announce that Apple is in early stages to bring its official retail stores into India market, but given a confirmation that will soon be happen later this year. Although, Apple is a bit serious about India, where the iPhone maker sees the country as one of the best areas and the company’s chief executive officer was cited as saying that.
Now that the report suggests that the Mac maker’s company is reportedly focusing its attention to emerging regions such as India, where Apple worries of slowing growth in its primary markets. He also shared this with Apple employees, speaking about the importance of India at the company’s campus town hall meeting.
Tim Cook also said that 4G LTE networks are still not widely available in every emerging markets, though. And Apple sees that as an opportunity to push its products to such regions and the state of LTE pnetration, performance, and coverage in the country is still the minimal stage, as also seen in OpenSignal’s recent global LTE report.
Apple in 2014 had requested the Indian Government to relax the policy on foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail. Followed by a proposal filed by Apple last month with the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) to open its own branded retail stores in the country to sell its products. As of now, Apple sells its iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other products through third-party resellers in India via Croma.
During the earnings call for the financial year Q1 2016, Apple CFO Luca Maestri said that a total of grown 76% of iPhone sale made in India in Q4 of 2015. Other topics include that about the Apple TV and Apple Watch sales as well. Cook said that Apple Watch was one of the hottest product last quarter, while the company has never sold as many Apple TVs before. He also talked about Apple Music for Android, which the Cupertino-based firm decided to bring its product to rival Google’s platform has became a breaking news in the industry. With the Android app in works, the company is testing the waters for expanding its services on other platforms to stream online.
Commenting on investing in India and Apple’s future plans regarding Indian market, Tim Cook, said:
We are also continuing to invest in markets where we believe they are great places for Apple in the long term, like India is an example of that one.
India is also incredibly exciting. India’s growth, as you know, is very good, it’s quickly becoming the fastest-growing BRIC country. It’s the third-largest smartphone market in the world behind China and the United States.
