The new MediaTek’s chipset, dubbed the MT6797 Helio 20 is almost ready to hit the consumer markets and the company has started promoting its new silicon widely. Compared it with the chip of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 and showcase how its new SoC is powerful than its competitor. MediaTek is the manufacturer of chipsets which hopes to build on its recent success in the mobile market and secure more branded supplier contracts, both with local and international brands. More details on MediaTek’s new MT6797 Helio 20 vs. Snapdragon 810 chipset comparion can be grabbed after this break.
Given prospective buyers a clear picture of what the MT6797 Helio 20 SoC has to offer, MediaTek has shafted it up against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 in a comprehensive stats comparison chart. Turns out, that the new MT chip has lot to offer than its predecessors which has shown that it has few significant improvements over its rivals as well.
MediaTek, just like Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, built it using a 200nm aesthetics process that allows for better overall performance. The Helio 20 employs a Tri-Cluster setup with a total of 10-cores, to gain improved power efficiency and the oft-mentioned set of cores includes four Cortex A53 chips, clocked at 1.4GHz, another four runnig at 2.0GHz and two Cortex-A72 cores, which can be clocked between 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz.
Notably, MediaTek is focusing on employing the most powerful cores ARM on to its new MT6797 Helio 20 chispet – offering Cortex A57 chips, currently, found in Snapdragon 810. May be pointing to a serious head-management challenge, which S810 Qualcomm’s chopset is still battling with.
Memory plays a huge role and mediate was straight-forward enough when considering that the MT6797 Helio 20 still relies on slower LPDDR3 modules, as opposed to the LPDDR4 RAM speeds, employed by Qualcomm.
Graphics in the Helio 20 also looks quite promising and the SoC comes with an ARM Mali T880MP4 700mHz GPU card, promising some serious pixel-pushing power. But unfortunately, the maximum screen resolution is still unchanged – sits at 2560 x 1600 pixels, whereas the Snapdragon 810 chips can handle up to 3840 x 2160 pixels screens.
Camera on the MT6797 support has received a lot more attention, which is capable to capture up to 25MP, offers super slow motion video and Native 3D 2.0 for three-dimensional stills. Therefore, 4K video recording and playback support is also present, now with the addition of HDR (High Definition RAW).
Connectivity support on the MediaTek MT6707 Helio 20 still stuch with Cat-6 LTE, when compared to the Snapdragon 810 – speedier Cat.9 LTE at its disposal, which could be one draw back for both smartphone manufacturers and end users, particularly when targeting the markets where LTE coverage is still spotty, at its best.
Price, MediaTek manages to set a competitive price mark for its new Helio 20, the SoC has every chance to make it big both in China and abroad. Availability of the new MT6797 Helio 20 from MediaTek should start shipping to manufacturer in the summer and can be expected to see the first devices hit user markets by late autumn or early winter.
