Coolpad Committed To Invest Rs 30 Crores For Smartphone Manufacturing In India

As part of being a member of “Make in India” project, Coolpad Group Limited is willing to invest over Rs. 30 cores in the country in manufacturing research and development (R&D) and design at it launched one of the best 4G LTE-capable smartphone under Rs 10,000 – Coolpad Note 3 on Friday.

Coolpad also said that will collaborate with Videocon to manufactyre smartphones inthe country and will iterate nearly half a million devices from its facility in Maharahtra.


The first Made-in-India Coolpad phone will be available in the first quarter of 2016,” Coolpad vice president Johnson Luo said. Followed by “India is very crucial market for Coolpad and we believe we will learn a lot from our investments here. We are here to bring affordable smartphones to the users,” Luo added.

The Chinese maker, Coolpad currently produces nearly 34 million smartphones every year and has $3 billion (roughly Rs. 19,430 crores) revenue, which had already launched in India with Dazen brand name which was a partnership between Coolpad and Qihoo 360, another Chinese search engine.

However, Dazen is no longer a part of Coolpad, though has been seperated due to a change in invester relations. Luo said alluding that Coolpad’s 18% stake is also owned by Chinese giant LeTV, is also thinking to place its business in India. Dezen will continue to see its smartphone in the country under the same brand.

Coolpad, the company behind being the first to invent dual-SIM standby, is now betting on the 4G revolution, Indian language local support and customizations for India to push sales of its devices.
