Cheaper handset maker Datawind has its own level of entry and budget friendly smartphones available and today according to this report is planning to launch a 4G mobile phone early next year for about Rs 3,000 and offering free Internet browsing for 12 months on it. Details goes this way.
Datawind, the Canada-based world’s largest low-cost telecom device manufacturer has its plans, is currently in Bihar to expedite setting up of a unit of Soneet Singh Tuli company in the state. He, the CEO of Datawind is likely to provide employment to around 1,000 people in the state where it going to equip its unit.
Tuli said those who want to access videos and do downloads can buy a regular 4G plan offered by operators, which, the company is in talks with various mobile operators for the new 4G device. Partnered with Reliance Communications and Telenor for the free 2G and 3G Internet browsing. Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of the cash-rich Reliance Industries is likely to start 4G voice and data services in December and Idea Cellular is planning to launch 4G services in 720 towns across 10 circles by the first half of 2016.
No quit! The ambitious target of both Reliance and Datawind is to sell a TD-LTE device at half the price of the tablets currently available. Both the companies seems to be in agreement with a price-tag of Rs 5,000 4G tablet.
Bharti Airtel on August 6 had announced launch of its 4G mobile phone services and now covers over 350 towns whereas Vodafone has started with Kochi, which will be followed by Delhi, Mumbai and other metros by March. At a price of INR 3000, this device will be the cheapest among any 4G handsets available right now. Currently, the lowest 4G-enabled device comes for over Rs 4,000.
When asked Datawind about offering Internet bundled with devices, voilates the principle of Net Neutrality, Tuli said no because they’re not discriminating among websites. He also adds to the scene is that, doing this is perfectly net neutral as they are only offering free Internet browsing and users can access any website they want to without paying data cahrges for unlimited browsing.
