The latest smartphone by Asus was ZenFone 2 with Intel Atom SoCs and now it looks like the firm moving away to Qualcomm chipsets for its forthcoming ZenFone devices, though. not completely moving away from Intel, but its said that the Taiwan based manufacturer is also considering Snapdragon 615 chips for its furtue smartphone. According to Asus CEO Jerry Shen, who said that the company will use Snapdragon 615 SoC in upcoming ZenFones. He made a comment during an interview with technology website Yugatech, tipped its strategic plan to maintain focus on the Zenfone series of smartphones at the Zenfone 2 launch in Jakarta. More details on this news can be found here after this jump.
Shen also told Yugatech that Asus will also devise a new taxonomy for the ZenFone 3 series similar to what Apple does with its iPhones. Asus recently launched the ZenFone 2 lineup (ZE550CL, ZE550ML and ZE551ML) and the naming convention of the phones seems to be far beyond easy to remember and is capable of confusing customers, which means that the company’s next flagship will be called ZenFone 3.
Further hinted at strengthening ties with other chip-makers like Qualcomm so that they can evidently use the S615 for its new ZenFones. Finally, Asus will indeed be coming up with new flagships every year, with incremental upgrades in between.
What do you thisnk about Asus ZenFone 3 use Snapdragon 615 as its chipset in future? It is unlikely for Asus to completely move away from Intel, with which it has deep relationships for its PC business after all.
