Apple has given the iPhone 5s yet another price cut in India. Now starts at a price-tag of Rs. 24,999, after less than a half price slash and is amongst the lowest globally.
The 2013 iPhone 5s launched in India back in November, with the official pricing started from Rs 53,500 for the 16GB model. In September 2015, Apple has although reduced the iPhone 5s price to Rs 47,000 and once agin slashed it to a half – Rs 24,999. Why?
Well, it depends on the sales of iPhone 5s, when iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus released, this price cut was done and later this year after the launch of two new iPhones, 6s and 6s Plus, it droped its prices as well. Despite its age, retailers in India say that the iPhone 5s accounts for nearly 50 percent of the total iPhone sales.
Remind you that, when the iPhone 6s 16GB, which was launched for Rs 62,000, is now available for as low as Rs 49,999 online with almost 20 percent price drop, which was the big reason for the price cut, took a slow start and picked up around Diwali sales and where Apple was aiming at doubling its iPhone sales during December quarter.
It is believed that the latest move of slashing the price comes from Apple as it is trying to achieve the target of mid-tier smartphone segment in India. Apple as of now has shipped nearly 562,500 iPhones between October 1 and November 15 Analysts believe that by the time this quarter is up, the number of iPhones shipped may exceed 700,000.
