Officially announced last month that Micromax is planning to create a new mobile device brand – Yu. Purely based on CyanogenMod power ups and sold only online, emulating the business models in Chinese companies such as Xiaomi and OnePlus. First smartphone was suggested as the brand series then said to get unveiled sometime in December 2014. Today, we got the exact launch date of the well rumored Cyanogen-powered Micromax Yu smartphone.
Although Micromax has apparently started sending out invites for its #Yulaunch event, which will take place on Dec. 18. Invites itself doesn’t reveal any details about its first Yu handset, as you can see yourself above.
According to Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma, “the phone is going to be a monster”, as it will have “really cool specs“. Probably, should expect a high-end offering for the new brand’s debbut soon.
On December 18, we being customers should find find out which Indian e-commerce websites will be offering the Micromax Yu phone, exclusively in India. Micromax has reportedly been negotiating with a variety of best companies in the eStore field.
Software on the upcoming Yu phone goes with CyanogenMod-based OS, as the company has already committed to an exclusive relationship with the Yu brand from Micromax, which in fact also meant disappointing prospective owners of the OnePlus in the subcontinent, who won’t be receiving OTA updates for their devices running the well known custom ROM.
