OnePlus has confirmed to The Verge that the OnePlus 5 will be arriving this summer, so news of its next flagship phone is always going to be eagerly anticipated. The recent track record of OnePlus has been very positive, with the launch of OnePlus 3T. We now know that the phone will be coming this summer and be called the OnePlus 5. Here are the details.
A day after the yet-unannounced phone price and specifications were leaked, it has been acknowledged that the next OnePlus flagship is shaping up to be the big Galaxy S8’s rival. For those wondering what happened to the OnePlus 4?
Considering OP 3T to be the fourth flagship device to be released by the company, the real reason behind that it skipped the number four is down to the fact that the number four is argued to be unlucky in China, and of course, this is where OnePlus is headquartered.
Given the fact with OnePlus confirmation of the name and rough timescale for the new phone’s arrival, it stopped well short of confirming how much it will cost or what the phone internals will have on inside.
There is also apparently a link to former NBA player Robert Horry who wore the shirt number 5, but thinking about it a simple case study of tetraphobia is the most likely expansion here. That reports said that “there are actually paintings of Robert Horry hanging in OnePlus’ Shenzhen office,” so who knows.
Nevertheless, the company has made a habit out of selling well-specced smartphones at surprisingly low prices, though rumors do have the OnePlus 5 sporting high-end components and a dual-lens detailing camera system, so things could be about to get very interesting in the world of Android soon enough.
In this case, it warms our hearts that a so-called smaller Chinese startup company can still get us excited compete with Samsungs and Apples hardware, and we cannot wait to see what the OnePlus 5 exactly has to offer this summer.
