You can now download OxygenOS ROM based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which the Chinese manufacturer OnePlus has officially released it today. OxygenOS is purely a custom ROM build seeded for OnePlus One smartphones.
Before we will be talking about OnePlus’ new custom ROM, we had to speak about what it actually introduced with its One devices in India. OnePlus has been teasing OxygenOS since last year, after the company encountered issues when launching its One phone in Indian market. It learned that Cynogen, the organization behind CyanogenMOD, had granted exclusivity to another manufacturer Micromax in the country, whick neverthelessly expedited OnePlus’s development of OxygenOS.
From now on, OnePlus will be using their own custom ROM builds based on Android Lollipop, just by replacing its existing CyanogenMOD-based ROM acroos the board, and currently, the official OTA updates for One smartphone will continue to be CyanogenMod, presumably until OnePlus is confident it a successor on its hands with OxygenOS and ironed out any issues.
Notably, the OnePlus’s new custom ROM is not available as OTA as yet, but you can try it for yourself by heading to this download link here and manually flash it on your OnePlus One smartphone.
About OxygenOS, Carl Pei, Director, OnePlus Global on the official blog, said:
Developing OxygenOS has been an incredibly fun and challenging experience for all of us. In this environment where everyone is fighting to standout with custom ROMs, we think it’s important to go back to basics. We place things like performance and battery life over gimmicks and bloated features.
We want to be careful that we aren’t adding features simply for the sake of differentiation. We’ve implemented some important features thus far, but they are subtle and meaningful. That’s our philosophy behind OxygenOS: keep it light and essential.
Here’s are instructions on how to install OxygenOS ROM on your OnePlus One from the official OnePlus forum. Since this is the first version, which will be improved eventually, will have some issues.
