Sony tipped on its plans regarding the five smartphone games designed for both iOS and Android, coming to market by March 2018. Especially for five games that’s much closer than it sound we could only assume will be based on existing PlayStation franchises. Currently, the details of that claims are relatively sparse at the moment.
Although Sony has confirmed that the games will be created by Sony’s new ForwardWorks subsidiary, which is formed just this past March to create “full-fledged game titles” for smartphones to focus purely on mobile gaming. By the way these PS games for iOS and Android will first of all will be announced in Japan and other Asian markets, followed to other countries. Which type of games Sony is building for the smartphones is unknown at the far status.
Now that we have a few more details on what we can expect. Sony’s move comes after Nintendo’s record-breaking Pokemon Go launch took the mobile gaming world a storm. With that said, Apple teamed up with Nintendo in bringing Super Mario Run to iOS. Sony is however planning to create its own PlayStation games for iOS and Android in the next couple of years.
Learned a little:
“Japan is a market where Sony and other console makers are struggling to sell units. Sony had to react. People are consuming smartphone games like there is no tomorrow,” Serkan Toto, CEO of Japanese gaming consultant and advisory group Kantan Games, told CNBC by phone.
It is expected that the new smartphone games will initially be released in Sony’s home nation, with games rolling out to other territories as time rolls on. With ForwardWorks there is the intelligent property of the numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles and its gaming characters, focus on its user base in Japan and Asia is marvelous. It aims to deliver users experience high-end game titles in the new filed smartphone market.
While confirmation on the titles has yet to be shared by Sony, anything using franchises such as Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted or even Sly Cooper could undeniably see Sony’s games receive the same kind of boost that Nintendo software sees as soon as Mario or Luigi get anywhere near it. On a smartphone, Ratchet & Clank game has us interested, and like that we should have plenty of titles in the PlayStation catalog that would make excellent smartphone games of the future mobile players.
Eager to see what Sony has in store for us in 2018.
