There are two headlines today, Samsung India has set up a goal of over $10 billion units this year, and another is as aforementioned, the appearance of an alleged Galaxy Tab S4. Here are the details you need to know about.
First and foremost, Samsung is targeting sales of more than $10 billion this calendar year after having recorded nearly $9 billion in 2017, according to senior company executives.
Sales will be driven by Samsung products, including smartphones, premium television and appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. All of these will be focused areas of the company this year.
The three senior industry executives who were present in the annual strategy meet – Samsung Forum – held last week in Rome, said:
“Samsung India’s pace of growth had slowed down in 2017 which was attributed to demonetization and impact of the rollout of goods and services tax, but it is confident to get back to the growth trajectory this year,” said one of the industry executives who were present at the event. “They are confident to exceed $10-billion sales despite stiff competition from Xiaomi in smartphones,” he said.
While smartphones will continue to be the largest sales contributor, accounting for 60% of the sales, the balance of 40% will be generated from consumer electronics driven by premium products.
On this, another executive describes as “For instance, in the ultra-HD television segment, they want to increase market share from 37% to 43%.”
In fact, an email sent to Samsung India did not disclose any response till press time. As per market trackers, Samsung is the country’s largest mobile phone maker in last year, while it lost out to Xiaomi in smartphones and Reliance Jio Infocomm in feature phones in the last Oct-December 2017 quarter, taking the second spot in each. Also, Samsung played a big role in retailing television and microwave oven maker in the country and the second largest in refrigerators and washing machines after LG.
Now, that a purported Galaxy Tab S4 has been surfaced, which is said to be Samsung Galaxy device, has leaked in a benchmark listing. The handset carries a model number of SM-T835, suggesting it could eventually be called the Galaxy Tab S4 tablet, which would be a successor to last year’s Tab S3 (SM-T820/SM-825).
Specifications-wise, which have also been revealed by the device’s GFXBench listing include a 10.5-inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, octa-core 2.5GHz SoC and Adreno 540 GPU (strongly indicating the presence of Snapdragon 835 chipset).
Other key features may include 4GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, and 12MP/8MP camera combo. Operating system (OS) is Android 8.0 Oreo. No information on its release date or price or availability has been announced as yet. But expecting it to be unveiled at MWC 2018 in Barcelona on February 27.
