Here is the first real look at Samsung’s existing flagship Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones, claimed to be. But they’re far from long in the tooth, but their replacements are already rumored for an announcement either during the upcoming CES event or shortly after it at MWC.
There have been number of Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 leaks now, but a pair of newly leaked renders definitely give us one of our closest looks ever yet at both that phone and the larger Galaxy S9 Plus.
According to the predictions and leaked photos, Samsung looks set to keep the 3.5mm headphone jack with a new leak suggesting the phone will have the port along its bottom edge. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ hit stores in early 2017, so it makes sense that we’re hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S9 and its larger variant Galaxy S9+, as they might only be months away for unveil.
The newly leaked images of Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ show off the iPhone X rival for the first time. And the flagship smartphones are expected to launch at a tech industry event next month.
A leaked image also reportedly showing finished versions of Galaxy S9 (and its larger version S9+) have shown up on social media, Weibo. The image (below) shows both phones from the back and though similar to last year’s bestselling Samsung Galaxy S8, there are a few key differences.
Apparently, the larger version of Galaxy S9 now sports a dual-lens camera system similar to Apple’s premium model iPhone X. Secondly, the fingerprint scanner has also been relocated from alongside the camera lenses to below them.
As is so often the case with smartphone leaks, the newly spotted images come courtesy of Chinese social network, with a user posting five images that give us our best look at what we can expect from both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
However, the phones will look very similar to the handsets they will replace, while the bezels do appear to be a tiny bit thinner than the older brethren. The legitimacy of the images consideration by the photos revealing the rear of the device. Rumors had already claimed that Samsung will move the fingerprint sensor from beside the rear-facing camera, to below it.
It seems like Samsung does at least appear to be learning from the mistake it did with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. When the two new phones are finally unveiled, we expect the Galaxy S9 to feature a 5.8-inch display with the larger Galaxy S9+ packing something in the region of a 6.2-inch mammoth screen. There is also expected to be a headphone jack and a dedicated microSD card slot just like the previous models.
The Galaxy S9 could have a repositioned fingerprint scanner.
Other details you can make out include an array of lenses and sensors above the screen, and there’s no notch like the iPhone X on top, which some reports suggesting including an improved iris scanner. With a volume rocker and what’s likely a Bixby button on the left edge and the power button on the right.
